Hastert was supposed to be the clean one. Indictment shows rot is the core of Rethugism.

Iirc, after two Rethug leaders were forced out in disgrace, they had nowhere to go but to a nonentity/him. George-"debate books"-WILL (he *didn't* turn in the Jimmy CARTER debate-prep books until he studied them) called him contemptuously (contempt coming from WILL) "a mechanic" (not a leader).

What filtered down to my level of him was just a vague impression of an honest image.
