Bush in 1995: Corporal punishment may prevent school shootings

Washington (CNN)Jeb Bush suggested in his 1995 book "Profiles in Character" that paddling school children could prevent school shootings.

Writing in the same section on shaming for single parents that drew so much heat earlier this week, Bush wrote that poorly performing students should be shamed, too.

To illustrate his point, he noted Walton County, Florida's success in using corporal punishment.

"The students of these schools will tell you, as will anybody who experienced corporal punishment in school, that it is not the brief spanking that hurts, but the accompanying shame," he wrote.

He closed with the line, "To date, Walton County has never experienced a shooting in any of its schools."

Don't even think about taking away the guns and not beating them.

A paddle would have stopped an armed shooter.

Maricopa is a big county so don't know if we never had a school shooting but I'm sure the city district I grew up didn't either. I know Flagstaff sure as hell haven't (though kid running into the woods had a gun in drugs in his backpack but he seemed very nice, even while he was in cuffs though he gave me bad advice to admit everything as they tend to go easier on you when you're completely honest with them). I had a crumbled up tinfoil with residue of THC in my backpack. We were smoking cigarettes in the parking lot when the Athletic director and assistant Principal came running out there.
