Romney's hard up niece gets a sprinkler system - and Mittens gets chocked up about it.

But she now had to live on a much lower income. National Guard salaries aren't as high as they were in his law firm. Now she's in this home and the outside of her is a whole dirt yard. No grass or anything yet, just stones and dirt. And under the neighborhood association where they have this home, you got a year from the time you buy your home till the landscaping’s supposed to be in. Well, she's a little bit concerned cause that time period is coming up. She doesn't have the money to do the landscaping, to pay for it. She's got a little girl that is getting various tutoring classes and speaking therapy. She wonders what's going to happen. She's concerned. One morning, she comes outside and there are her neighbors all picking up the rocks out of her yard, raking the dirt. They put in a sprinkler system. They laid down sod. They even build a swing set for her daughter. This is the America that I love.

Just what you need when you have fallen on "hard times."
Can this story be any more fake?

1. Romney's idea of hard times

:eyesroll: So let me take the GOP position. She CHOSE to live in an HOA situation and she couldn't meet the requirements. She should pick herself up by her bootstraps and remedy it herself, or else move. Why is she depending on others to help her? Blah, blah, blah

He's disgusting. This is the best hard times story he can come up with? Why doesn't he pay for her "hard times"?

2. This was Romney's niece?

He's richer than God; why the hell didn't he help her out? He could have fixed up her yard using the loose change under his couch cushions.

3. Niece of billionaire presidential candidate is financially strapped.

Mostly because her husband left his lucrative job to join the military and they now live on meager military pay. Who comes to her rescue? Her equally financially strapped neighbors of course! Billionaire Uncle couldn't be bothered to help his niece himself, but to add insult to injury, uses his nieces story to explain to the little people that this is what makes America great!


Billionaire Uncle is completely clueless as to why this makes him look like an even bigger jerk with a sense of entitlement.

4. He only used her in a moment in front of the camera

He is about as low as they come.

Couldn't or wouldn't help her, but he sure wasn't afraid to bring up the story as "his" example of hardship.

8. Given Romney's track record of truth, time to turn on the crap detector.

1. No one is drafted into the Guard. Nephew-in-law choose to do so.

2. Niece and n-in-l didn't make plans for the 99% chance he'd be activated and take a salary hit? Ooops.
Sympathy time out right there.

3. In the world most of us live in, it's called yard work, not landscaping. Here's how it works: You get your perky butt out there, pick up the rocks and make a rock garden. Next you rake the dirt to even it up. Then, go to Agway, buy a bag of grass seed, scatter over the dirt, water and stand back because very shortly you'll be up to your lower lip in grass.

4. Finally question: Who paid for this? Rolls of sod and sprinkling systems aren't cheap. Unless the yard is the size of of a kitchen table (see #3), some big bucks were shelled out, relatively speaking (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

9. doing your own landscaping is good for your soul

I hand-dug my flowerbeds out of clay and stones, bought truckloads of cheap manure from a local farmer, and started perennials by seed. All this while working and being a mom. Of course, it took seven years to actually achieve the garden I wanted, but I built up muscles and could look at those roses with pride.

Years later, I moved into a house with a yard that's already been totally landscaped and I wish I had some bare earth to work with.
