(Reuters) - Controversial conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was quietly inducted into a hall of famous Missouri natives on Monday in a ceremony held under tight security at the State Capitol in Jefferson City, a legislative spokesman said.

A bust of Limbaugh, who is known for his scathing attacks on President Barack Obama and other Democrats, will join an exclusive group including writer Mark Twain and former president Harry Truman in the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Missouri Republican House Speaker Steve Tilley said Limbaugh was honored because he was the "voice of conservative America for more than a decade."

Democrats said the award was inappropriate because of his history of his partisan history and penchant for personally attacking those he disagrees with. "That this was done without the general public, shows what an embarrassment it is," said Missouri House of Representatives Minority Leader Mike Talboy.

Putting a bust of Rush Limbaugh up in your state capitol would be like Iowa putting up a statue of Frederick Wilhelm Kaltenbach in our state capitol.

Rush might be a bit extreme on some of his views but calling him a Nazi is nuts.

Look, it's ok to call President Obama a communist; after all, we have the same political goals for the most part at DU. (In fact, I WISH we could just do it so we can draw that much needed line in the sand).

But I don't think we should demean Nazi's with Rush Limbaughs special level of human deprivation. His actions have caused more death, despair, and overall hatred of human society than every German nazi could have engineered collectively.

He needs to be destroyed, commercially and personally, just as he destroys good people like Sandra Fluke.

And for the record, I still think that putting a bust of Limbaugh in the Missouri capitol would be like us putting up one of Fred Kaltenbach in our state capitol.

Additionally, anyone who doesn't like my comparison is hereby invited to forcefully strike some naturally occurring granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles.

If you draw the line with Communism on one side i think you will be lonely because most of us will be on the other side.

Thought maybe they'd popped him for forged perscriptions again and he was going to join an exclusive group on a Floridian chain gang. No such luck. Oh well, we live in hope.
