The Civil War ENDED 150 years, two months, and a couple of

weeks ago! Why are DUers still fighting it? No one living today was alive during that war. There is no way we can change what happened in the past. We can only try to make things better now and in the future.

And we are not going to do that by continuing the sectionalism that helped tear this country apart 154 years ago. It certainly is not going to foster the good will that is needed for all of us to work together to overcome the hurdles that still stand in the way of a equal and just society.

5. What "Sea of Red"?

I see pink, and I see purple, as well as some isolated islands of red, but not a sea, not an ocean, and not even a Gulf

8. However, "lacking support" is not the same thing as voting for or against.

That's just one part of the whole. The map I posted was based on population densities per county. That's why so many of them are not deep red.

So again, no "sea" of red

12. You do know that our biggest problem (voting-wise) isn't simply the repubs in office?
Mon Jun 29, 2015, 06:19 AM
Jun 2015

I'd say it's the damage they did in gerrymandering the voting districts to ensure they remained in office and added to their rolls. As I understand the laws/rules surrounding all of that, we've still got to wait until the next census before we can possibly change it, too.

Because while we can fight (and sometimes win) against them while in office, our power remains with what's been done to those districts. Get them changed to something that's fair, and we stand a much better chance of winning far more elections in the future.

Maybe then we can find some state money to start building mental institutions again

17. And that isn't limited to the South

It also helps to remember that good things also happen in the South, and that SPLC and the Civil Right Memorial are in...Montgomery, Alabama...

The Civil Rights Memorial, designed by Maya Lin, was dedicated on November 11, 1989.

Much of the fighting is about opposing historical revisionism and the use of the old war emblems to promote racism.

Ken Burns: Confederate flag isn't about heritage. It's about resistance to civil rights.

How exactly am I supposed to interpret this post any other way?

Really, that's the kind of attitude the OP (and the rest of us that support it) are talking about. And DU needs to discard that kind of sentiment.
