Can't find any info online except from Lionel on Facebook and Wikipedia.
I followed her from WBAI to WABC in New York. She was infamous for her Christmas Eve shows where she'd have 4-5 callers sing carols together, everyone off-key and different tempos, but all having a great time.
While I found Lynn to be inexplicably devoted to Hillary and more libertarian than liberal these past few years, I liked listening to her. Yes, even with that voice I liked her.

Speak well of the dead and all that... but wasn't she was a birther?

(23,973 posts)But I am not sad she is no longer going to be on air, either.
As she aged she was NOT a progressive in any way, shape, or from, she was more of a crank than anything else.

(128,905 posts)first came on the air, kicking her out of her 12 noon WABC slot. Never understood her convoluted politics.

(46,088 posts)She said he was pathologically shy why he wasn't on air. And she also defended Drudge. I guess that was the beginning of the end.

(128,905 posts)she seemed to become more and more paranoid over the years, claiming she was having recurring dreams that everyone would be rounded up into concentration camps. I figured alot of what she did was for ratings purposes, sortof like what Tweety does on occassion, but she eventually embraced the dark side.

(69 posts)times I was at BAI, I heard this shrill screaming in the hallways, it was Lynn.
She was also in love with Pat Buchanan while at BAI, the only time I heard him on the air on that station. Interesting to listen to, but not to be around.

(22,298 posts)When I was recovering from a serious illness about 3 years ago, I got used to listenIng to her show when it ran late night on Sirius Left. Sorry to hear she passed away.

(22,298 posts)I didn't care for her Obama-bashing, but she would bring up interesting points or stories I didn't hear anywhere else. Her lead-in music was unusual too.

(46,088 posts)I just wanted to add a story about Lynn.
She had been fired and re-hired by WABC three times, with each time the station becoming progressively (so to speak) more "conservative"/rightwing. One of those times, just before her surprise firing, she had been given the graveyard shift, overnight 1 to 5 a.m. Lynn had been one of the lone voices who expressed vociferous skepticism about O.J. Simpson murdering his wife and Ron Goldman. It was like a cliffhanger. She promised a guest on the next show who would decisively prove that he was innocent.
It didn't happen. When we tuned in the next night, not only was Lynn not on the air, but . . . . she was replaced by Sean Hannity, his introduction to the New York local market. Double whammy. And now she's truly gone and he's still here and then some.

(22,457 posts)I could ever understand why Sirius had her on a progressive radio station. She was not progressive.
May she RIP.

(6 posts)A "Progressive" is a person who is POLITICALLY OPEN-MINDED and remains open to the truth.
Lynn Samuels was one of the few persons in today's world who was able to remain "open-minded" on political issues.
Today's politicians not only want to change history, but they want to change the English language too, in order to better represent their own brand of propaganda.
Liberals and Conservatives alike remain closed off to anything that contradicts the Party Line they have been fed. Progressives are thinkers, NOT followers. Progressives are the first to recognize political deception, and so Lynn Samuels continually tried to wake up the world about Barack Obama.
There is a special place in heaven for "Progressives".

(46,192 posts)i with she was still with us.
eulogizing her is one thing, but rewriting her biography is not okay.
one of the things she will be remembered for is her questioning the American-ness of Obama at every opportunity and lying about him. and it doesn't reflect well on her and undermines the argument that her later work and career was as a progressive.
many of her rants were in fact, put on right wing blogs, shows and so forth because they fit in so well over there.
and as for Hillary Clinton, with supporters like Samuels, Hillary would've been better off without her.
Logical
(22,457 posts)she said "Obama is lying about his true place of birth, which might be outside of the united states"
That statement discredits ANYTHING else about her.
You need to read more about this woman.

(5,477 posts)I really enjoyed her during her early days at WBAI. When you heard her voice you *knew* you were in NY! Met her a couple of times back then, and she was always very nice (except in the middle of a fundraiser!)

(4,281 posts)She was one of the first talk radio hosts that I listened to when I was a teen 20 years or so ago. Rest in peace. Although I didn't always agree with her, I always enjoyed her.

(46,088 posts)Nobody, but nobody would go on the air in New York and repeatedly, regularly describe Rudy Giuliani, then-mayor, as "vile" and "despicable". And she'd explain why for each time, each explanation different yet building on his growing file. Come to think of it, Lynn was on Giuliani's case when he was Federal District Attorney. I remember her having no love for Michael Milken and the junk bonds he sold, but she had equal animus for Giuliani who perp-walked Milken in front of cameras without his toupe.

(66 posts)First, as a human being, I am sorry that she has died, and am particularly sad that she died alone in her apartment. As a fellow "loner", I identified with her on a personal level.
On a political level, I found her annoying and was pissed that I was paying to listen to her on "liberal" radio. I complained numerous times to SiriusXM that she did NOT belong on Left talk radio. So they finally moved her to Stars, where she belonged, with Dr. Laura. I didn't want her unemployed, just wanted her off Sirius Left.
As far as her criticism of Obama was concerned, I was fine with that. Except for the birtherism shit. That was as ridiculous as the "Trig-is-not-Sarah Palin's-baby" talk. Let's talk about how Obama caved on single payer/public option, his continuance of the Bu$h wars, but when you go the birther route, you lose me.
Combined with her creaming for Michael "Weiner" Savage, Drudge, and Beck, I was thoroughly disgusted. The fact that she did NO prep work for her show was a problem, save for cutting and pasting from Drudge.
Now, I do agree with her on one thing. If Alex Bennett did not have a penis, he, too, would be on Stars right now. This man is a joke, and is another lazy ass who does no prep for his show. He should be on right-wing radio as well. On a recent show, he actually had the nuts to say that women in the workplace are at fault for the problem of male unemployment. OK, Alex, guess we should just go back to the Leave it to Beaver days! The bimbo Cristina is a joke, as are his attempts to imitate Howard Stern, with the calls from Cristina's father and Cristina's "news" segments.
But I digress. Bennett is best left to another day, another time.
RIP, Lynn.
