(10,237 posts)ground water is dryed up and the soil is like concrete , when the rain comes it floods because the rain isn't absorbed .These is very little drainage in the roadways and housing wasn't built with weather in mind .......gonna be a long hot summer .
That's a fast fire! I've seen 'em jump freeways before, but I don't think I remember them ever catching cars.
Yikes!

(24,853 posts)Interstate 15 is a MAJOR north/south thoroughfare and backs up for MILES in a matter of minutes.
Hope no one gets hurt.
OT but if I were a terrorist I wouldn't be shooting up recruiting centers, I'd be driving along interstate highways in California with highway flares and a launcher.

(22,871 posts)fire jumps without trees to carry it? I'm looking at the news and it looks like scrub and the scrub doesn't look burnt.Where did the fire come from?

(118,724 posts)sudden the winds changed and got really strong and moved the fire's direction and sent fire over the highway where the cars were. Don't know it that is outright speculation. But apparently fire crossing the highway is not unheard of because of the winds in the area.

(24,853 posts)We have fires up here in the San Bernardino Mountains that jump 1/4 mile at a time because of the blown embers. Dry pine trees are still full of sap and the sap burns like you wouldn't believe. Go to YouTube and look at Christmas trees and how fast they burn.
