That sound you heard may have been Trump's campaign exploding.

@karentravers:
Trump just now on John McCain: "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

Boom goes the dynamite.
Don't like McCain but he was badly hurt and tortured.

McCain is not beloved. Belief in the meme that he was captured and therefore he's a failure is not uncommon, even is it is not widely said in public. Further, he is not seen by many as being sufficiently conservative for the GOP base.

I think Trump said this to ignite another media firestorm and feeding frenzy. Like a roaring fire, he sucks all the air out of the room. I think that's his plan. That's how he keeps on keeping on.

that McCain suffered for his country. In addition to hitting McCain, it hits ANY soldier who was captured -- in any war.

Not to mention, it is in contrast to the wealthy heir of a NYC real estate fortune who got a series of deferments. Yes, I know this sounds like Bush, but he didn't directly call a whole group of veterans "not heroes".

the circumstances McCain was in were violent and unpredictable. Who can say what a wise choice is in such a situation?

Trump is so appalling to say this. He is implying it was McCain's on-the-spot decision that got him captured! This could have happened to anyone in such a situation.

The only kind of person it wouldn't happen to is someone who refused to be in those circumstances. So that is what Trump is saying? You're a fool to be a soldier?

However, Selective Service records reveal that Trump, the fortunate son of a multimillionaire real estate baron, took repeated steps to avoid serving in Vietnam.

By the time his number (356) was drawn during the December 1, 1969 draft lottery, Trump had already received four student deferments and a medical deferment, according to military records on file with the National Archives and Records Administration. An extract of Trump’s Selective Classification record, seen here, was provided in response to a TSG records request.

In fact, the December 1969 draft lottery occurred about 18 months after Trump graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied business at the Wharton School. So, while claiming that he would “never forget” being at Wharton watching the draft numbers being drawn, the 64-year-old Trump seems to have misremembered, as candidates are fond of saying.

Trump obtained his first two Class 2-S student deferments in June 1964 and December 1965, when he was student at Fordham University in the Bronx. He was briefly reclassified as 1-A—or “available for military service”—in late-November 1966, but that classification was switched back to 2-S three weeks later.

See the rest of his glorious military record here: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/44826_Donald_Trump-_The_Most_Militaristic_Person_in_the_Room_Avoided_Military_Service_Himself

The Angry White Man's Angry White Man has just stepped in it, since he's going to piss off everybody who served in the military, peacetime or wartime.

Expect to see him called a candy assed rich boy who doesn't know what he's talking about very soon, whether or not they've had any use for McCain.

I think your reaction will be typical. Somebody needs to cork him quickly if they want him to last more than another week as the Angry White Man's standard bearer.
