I know people who have spent hours every day for years working hard to make sure Facebook knows everything about everybody. It's unpaid work but at least they get the satisfaction of helping make some brat the world's richest whatever.
Watching them register what they read, hear, think and wear for some ultra short-term version of posterity... and all of it so thoughtfully auto-linked to Amazon. Reaching out to draw more consumer crash dummies into the matrix.
I just felt like harshing on Facebook. Don't mind me.
And get off my lawn, while you're at it.

(23,864 posts)...70% of the Facebook users polled didn't trust Facebook but almost the same amount (about 70%) didn't care.
So I don't use Facebook and I never have. When I chat with people about Facebook, and the privacy concerns, most of them just sort of glaze over. That's their right, of course. I mean, not to care. But it always strikes me as funny when occasionally one of them will mention a fear of an Orwellian government which "knows everything" and "taps conversations" and I'm like "News for ya: The government can't get it together enough to snoop on your shit like Facebook and all of the shady consumers of your information do."
I've only had a few conversations like that but they always seem to come to a dead stop.
There's a lot of info rape going on nowdays. I find it funny when people are like "Oh, don't worry about it. Everyone's looting your personal info."

(18,186 posts)There are people making money "liking" Facebook business and product pages that attract scant attention otherwise. Those businesses and companies pay "like" brokers to rack up their Facebook popularity status. The brokers find people or companies to spend all day playing on Facebook hitting the like button.
And there are those making money pretending to be real people who "like" Facebook pages. A whole 'nother alternate reality that hurts my brain to think about.
(I heard a story about it on NPR today...no link cuz it's late and I'm tired.)
