Hillary Clinton Camp Defends E-Mail Use as Watchdogs Said to Seek Probe

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s campaign defended her use of a personal e-mail account while secretary of state after two U.S. watchdogs asked were said to ask for a criminal probe into whether potentially classified data was jeopardized.

“She followed appropriate practices in dealing with classified materials,” Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said Friday in a statement.

The inspectors general from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the State Department wrote to the Justice Department requesting a criminal investigation into whether e-mails in Clinton’s private account may have contained classified information, a U.S. official with knowledge of the request said.

No decision has been made yet at the department about whether to start an investigation, according to a Department of Justice official who asked for anonymity because the matter wasn’t yet public.

The request followed a June 29 memo the two officials sent to Undersecretary of State Patrick Kennedy, saying that hundreds of e-mails in Clinton’s private account may improperly contain classified material, said the person with knowledge of the request, who asked for anonymity to discuss a potential legal matter.

1. These IG's are Obama appointees correct?

If she's clear then the campaign should welcome an investigation. It's just not her either, it's anyone on her staff that forwarded potentially classified material to her private email account outside the .gov secure domains or classified networks.

The main point here is whether or not the info was classified when it was sent or afterwards.
