There are too many loons out there with grudges and guns. You can't do much about the grudges. All you can do is make sure they can't get guns. I'm sick of this shit even when the carnage is limited. |

35. Should a hatchet incident be the base for talking Gunz in GD?
Do you want to lift the ban on Gunz Talk in GD (it is already a "rolling exception" as evidenced by this OP)? I don't mind Gunz being discussed here if the exception was dropped; there are many posts which can be made about the positive aspects of armed SD, policies too encourage safe and responsible firearms use, home safety recommendations, etc. These could be posted here as well. If you want Gunz to be in GD again full-time (it seems that way de facto), I'll support you.

going to have to put in security like in government buildings and airports have with metal scanners and X-ray machines that you put your stuff in plastic trays. As a matter of fact I don't think I will go to the movies again until the theaters do this. I don't don't want to lose my life to a lunatic with a gun and a grudge.

10. At the same time, though, I am sick of the pat-downs and searches everywhere
Mostly they've been instituted under a bogus threat of "terrorism" at stadiums and wherever, but it's mostly nonsense. The real threat is from lunatics with guns.
So either the choice is to not leave the house, or be subject to unreasonable searches. Yet no one talks about banning guns or having very restrictive permit processes. Because we have more to fear from a guy (usually, but not always, a white guy with a gun and some kind of grievance. So I don't know. |

38. He bought a ticket then propped the door open
While he went out to get his protective gear and weapons.
Police said Holmes bought a ticket, entered the theater, and sat in the front row. About 20 minutes into the film, he left the building through an emergency exit door, which he propped open with a plastic tablecloth holder. <SNIP> He then went to his car, which was parked near the exit door, changed into protective clothing, and retrieved his guns.[8][9] About 30 minutes into the film, police say, around 12:30 am,[10] he reentered the theater through the exit door. He was dressed in black and wore a gas mask, a load-bearing vest (not to be confused with a bulletproof vest), a ballistic helmet, bullet-resistant leggings, a bullet-resistant throat protector, a groin protector, and tactical gloves.[11] Initially, few in the audience considered Holmes to be a threat. According to witnesses, he appeared to be wearing a costume, like other audience members who had dressed up for the screening. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Aurora_shooting#The_shooting |

I think you may be right. At this point, people are going to start being afraid to go to a theater and unless the industry starts taking proactive steps people will just wait to see a movie at home where they won't be massacred in the dark. What on Earth is behind all of this anger and violence?

49. So whether something is true, depends on how someone feels?
So if a guy says "Black men are dangerous criminals" and I call him a racist, can you tell me what I should say to "Tell that to someone who was the victim of a black criminal!"? Maybe this is difficult to understand, but fear is an irrational thing. Yes, out of 1.2 billion theater visits last year, a dozen people were killed by shooting. Every five days in the U.S. a child dies by choking on their food. Go tell them how healthy it is to eat! What sort of reasoning is that? |

Shootings have been on the rise here recently. Just a few days ago, in the town next to ours, there was a triple shooting that left 2 dead and one wounded. Even odder, one of the dead, who had been shot the most, had just threatened to kill my son a couple of weeks ago. Then he robbed someone else for over $1200.00! He was a well known thief and a violent meth-head. HUGE, too! I'm 6'3" and 215 lbs and he made me look small. Live by the gun, die by the gun... I guess he pissed the wrong person off this time...
