I don't know if this shooting can be "justified" or not but it is long past time to send a message that shooting people should not be the default solution every time a cop feels threatened.

The "union" protects them.

Police should only use their guns if their life is in immediate danger. And the BS excuse of "reached in their waistband" does not cover it.

Rookie officer not done with his FTO period rushes in like a hothead and gets in over his head.

It could still be a justified use of force depending on what went on inside (Nobody, not even an officer, loses their right to self defense even of they break a policy), but it could be a justified use of force that could/should have been avoided had he not rushed in and put himself in that position alone.

I am willing to be his FTO didn't have very favorable reports on him prior to that point.

For those not familiar, the FTO is a Field Training Officer. New rookie cops straight from the academy/school are not just turned loose on the street. For the first 3-5 months on the job they will be assigned a senior officer certified and trained as an FTO who will be teaching them, showing them the ropes and at the same time evaluating them as they work together.

FTO is the last hurdle to pass before becoming a fully certified officer. Its not unheard of for an officer to be let go at that point because the FTO won't sign off on them being ready to go out on their own.

Or was he aiming to wound an arm or leg but the target moved at the last second? Handguns can be somewhat less than perfectly accurate. I assume from the security camera clips that Christian Taylor was out of his mind on drugs.
