A thread from Reddit about Lenny Robinson (Maryland Batman): Onion warning

I've been Batman for hospital visits. The one I remember best was a 4-year-old girl, she was a HUGE Batman fan. She had a 3-foot-tall Batman stuffy in her gurney, she had Batman underwear, and I found out from some photos later that her room was Batman-themed.
When I walked in, she got up from her "this sucks" sulk and started jumping on her bed. I've owned dogs. I used to be married. I've got kids of my own. I have never in my life seen anyone that happy to see me. Kids that age can't tell reality from fantasy all that well, and so in her mind, it was actually The God-damned Batman visiting her, in her hospital room. I told her (in Batman Voice) that "I heard you were sick, so I wanted to come down here and see how you were doing." Of course, she was in ICU so I couldn't actually get within a couple of feet.
Well, Batman doesn't cry, but he does sometimes leak Justice Fluid out of his eyes. I never did get to find out if she got better or not; privacy laws won't ever let me find out. I choose that in 14 years or so, she'll get a Batman tattoo on her arm, maybe with a pink ribbon in the middle. All I know for sure is that it was one of the happiest days of her life. On Earth 6, where the Justice League is, they've got all kinds of crazy villains. Here on Earth Prime, we do too, but instead of Bane and Darkseid and Joker, we've got bullshit enemies like cancer, MSRA, bad infections, or just broken bones. So we fight those as best we can; I didn't go to medical school. The costumes all represent what they do in the comics. Hope, that you'll get better; Justice, that it's not fair that kids end up in the hospital; Tacos, that you'll get to have some fucking tacos. And for one day, you get to be a kid instead of a patient.
Goodbye Lenny, from one Batman to another, you did an amazing job.

My son was 7 when he was diagnosised with bone cancer. Our second home was the hospital and our second family was the staff for over 4.5 years till he died when he was 12. People coming and making the room less lonely was great for the parents also. My wife and I had four other kids do we had to switch out all the time. Great to see the best of humanity when your going through the worst nightmare any parent could imagine. I would have given my life so he could live but instead you sit there in a hospital room totally helpless and watch them suffer in pain and than one day they die in front of you and all you want to do is scream but you have to be the man for the next few minutes for one last time.
I would have gone insane if it wasn't for all the volunteers and staff that just were there for you. Thanks
