Raffi Freedman-Gurspan made history Tuesday, becoming the first out transgender person to work as an official at the White House.

Freedman-Gurspan, previously a policy adviser for the Racial and Economic Justice Initiative at the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), was appointed to the White House Office of Presidential Personnel where she will work as an outreach and recruitment director.

there are times we shine so bright I want to cry. This is a glorious moment for the LGBTQ community and their struggle. It is a glorious moment for women and it is a glorious moment for minority individuals. Thanks Mr. President for being a part of it and recognizing talent not phenotype.

Congratulations to Raffi on her success, ability, and congratulations on making history. I hope all her dreams come to pass.

It's kind of poetic that a president who is in office only because of an earlier civil rights movement is guiding us through another.
I think there have been some incredible, currently under appreciated changes that will lead history to remember president Obama well.
