Like many clichés, this one is heard so often that what it says doesn't even register with us any longer.
It should. And, it should also register that several hundred million dollars is being spent to divide us.
There are no politicians with whom I agree about all issues. None.
So my personal approach---which used to be considered rational---is to work like hell during the primaries to advance the candidate with whom I most agree and then, in the general election, VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE WITH WHOM I MOST AGREE. To do anything less is to support those with whom I most disagree and "mama didn't raise no fools."
Just sayin'---

(31,849 posts)Do not be fooled by the cries of "diviviseness", which is merely code for STFU by those with little patience for hearing from those that disagree with them.

(9,904 posts)Not all, I have no desire to force others to STFU, what I would like people to understand that dividing in order to conquer is an viable ancient practice used to control the masses, it is not something we should ignore as history over and over again proves it ultimately works in the long run, I just feel like we need to stop, breathe and search historic society's that has and continues to enslave its populace...,
I firmly believe United we Stand - Divided we Fall

(31,849 posts)It is a time honored strategy.
But I believe the strategy, as related to DU, is contrived, and goes one way.
I have yet to see a supporter of social justice primacy call someone arguing for economic primacy, divisive.
Hell ... raising/observing ANY issue of race, that doesn't cheer white liberals' efforts and progressive, is immediately met with cries of divisiveness by those that would prefer to only talk about economic solutions to social inequality.

(9,904 posts)conditioned to view the races as different, thankfully I don't feel that such conditioning has worked very well on myself personally, to be honest I cannot help but initially visually as well as verbally find myself being pulled back into that small and inadequate world which separates us humans...
But I soon override that conditioning and allow common sense to overtake the ignorant belief that as humans we are so very different according to race, age, so called class and location...
Or world is so small, so insignificant that for us to believe in any way shape or form that we matter outside this small world is nothing more than ego....
So that leaves us humans alone and fearful and fear pushes far too many humans into easy pickings for the greedy power hungry powers that have invaded and lessened the one valuable trait I feel we do possess, "the ability to view our surroundings with open minds"
If we are to succeed in our proposed evolution of knowledge for the good of mankind world wide we must try harder to embrace our differences and not allow false fears to invade humanity and the desire to be as one ..
We are no different on the inside, perhaps we should focus more on that in order to stop the destructive actions which grows from imposed separation in order to keep heading us towards true peace and the ability to embrace the obvious differences of humans across the globe...
Rambling I know, I've been told I live in a dream world often...
