Patrick R. Cleburne Confederate Cemetery to replace vandalized Confederate flag tonight (GA)

JONESBORO — A new Confederate flag will hoist over the Jonesboro’s Patrick R. Cleburne Confederate Cemetery Monday to replace one reportedly destroyed by vandals last week.

The Confederate Cemetery is a memorial containing headstones for about 1,000 unidentified Confederate soldiers who died during the Battle of Jonesboro. The cemetery flies a Confederate flag.

Somebody allegedly pulled that flag down and cut it sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 24, according to a Jonesboro Police Department incident report. The officer who responded to the vandalism call also reportedly saw beer bottles littering the ground in the park and noticed a “black and red pair of scissors by the flag pole” ...
