because other people were raising $$ for her.

Sounds like she's going to have a lot of time to rethink her position.

Until she's voted out of office, at least?

The judge had them in chambers, too. I imagine they also had an awkward conversation with the judge. Comply or join her in jail.

Judges tend to not like their orders being ignored. Makes them a bit cranky.

can turn into an angry tiger with a sore head when they are directly disrespected or defied. They take such actions as an insult to the dignity of the judicial office rather than personally. And they are fiercely protective of the dignity of the office.

If they transport her to county lock-up (detention center), she will cave before Monday. And by cave, I mean resign.

If they keep her somewhere solitary and away from other people, she could hold out a while.

They could cater to her and keep her away from other inmates.

She's still in the courthouse as of now.

From the news, sounds like she will get a second chance to stay out of jail.

The other clerks said they would comply, and the court could let Davis go if she agrees not to interfere with the issuance of ML. (per the news)

Apparently 5 of her 6 deputies decided they'd rather issue licenses than go to jail (not her son #6)
and judge is going to have her back in court at 3:30 to see if she'll let them do it. If so, no jail for
her. If not, back to her cell.

of whom she defeated, then in a general election against a Republican. More than 1,800 Democrats voted for her to be the nominee. Her predecessor in the job was her mother, a Democrat. There are many conservative Democrats and I am often told on DU that they are the only actual Democrats while liberals are just effete scum.

align her more toward Republican beliefs. She supports Ron Paul.. who called to encourage her as did Mike Huckabee, she is clearly in the Wrong party! Could you see her voting for Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton? No..she would not.

There are plenty of homophobic Democrats in Missouri (in the North and South) and I would guess there are in other conservative regions.
There are also racist Democrats. A lot of issues (particularly related to identity politics) are not partisan.

Under the US Constitution, martyrdom has no legal authority.

I say that if she really wants martyrdom than she should try out some lions. Fortunately for her, the constitution doesn't allow that.

The judge really didn't have a choice in this. Also, Kim will now realize that people should not repeatedly refuse to obey orders from judges. It kind of pisses them off.

She is getting just what she deserves.

The judge did well here.

Also, having heard stories about the horrors of jail, I wouldn't wish it on anyone other than a person who presents a danger to others.

I'm also supportive of prison reform, and I celebrating incarceration as a way to satisfy vengeance is way over the top when it comes to this kind of nonviolent behavior.

For their religious beliefs. And this simply lends credence to the RW hysteria about Dems wanting to jail all the Christians. I suspect the Kentucky legislature will eventually enact some sort of exception.

She is in jail because she flouted a court order to either do her job on behalf of the County, or step aside so someone else can do that job. She insists she should be able to hold a government position, and get paid for it, without having to exercise its duties.

That's not true. She's in jail because her religious beliefs led her to flout the court order. We shouldn't throw people in jail because they refuse to follow a law that violates their conscience.
