Confederate flag still flies - amid conflict - at Huntington Beach Civil War Days (CA)

... Huntington Beach Civil War Days is the largest re-enactment of the war in Southern California, according to re-enactor Darrell Rivers, drawing 800 or more participants each year. The event features simulated battles between Union and Confederate troops. The battles do not represent any specific conflict – generally the Union wins one day and the Confederacy the other.

Re-enactors such as Rivers, who helps host the event, said to fail to portray the flag is to fail to be accurate.

“To remove symbols wouldn’t be true to the historical narrative,” said Rivers, who has portrayed soldiers from both sides over the years ...
