General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump just announced something I hadn't heard before ...
That "lots of people say" there is a clause in the Iran nuclear deal that the US and the other parties to the deal must defend Iran should they be attacked, including Israel.
He dumped that on the Morning Joe Show and not one of the 6 people sitting around the table giggling asked him a single question on the statement.
So I went to the google and found this:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/252643-trump-nuclear-deal-forces-us-to-defend-iran-against-israel
Reportage; but, no attempt at verifying the statement.
What gives? I really can't believe the US would attack Israel; nor, can I believe that this would not have been raised, if not by Israel, itself, by any of the congress folks panning the deal.

(46,088 posts)If Israel went rogue and unilaterally attacked the nuclear sites in Iran, would this country:
A) do nothing and watch from the sidelines,
B) back up Israel when Iran responds, or
C) defend Iran as the treaty more or less allows Iran to have these facilities for the term of the Treaty?

(26,366 posts)The only related clause I'm aware of is the one concerning helping Iran defend its facilities through
training courses or workshops, see:

Summary of the deal: http://www.voltairenet.org/article181178.html

E3/EU+3 parties, and possibly other states, as appropriate, are prepared to cooperate
with Iran on the implementation of nuclear security guidelines and best practices.
Cooperation in the following areas can be envisaged:
Cooperation in the form of training courses and workshops to strengthen Iran's ability
to prevent, protect and respond to nuclear security threats to nuclear facilities and
systems as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical
protection systems;
Cooperation through training and workshops to strengthen Irans ability to protect
against, and respond to nuclear security threats, including sabotage, as well as to
enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems.

(31,849 posts)He, also, announced that should an independent candidate win the General Election, that independent candidate would, then have to be voted into office by majorities in the House and the Senate.
And again, the 6 "journalistic commentators" giggled ... while my 8th grade Civics teacher (R.I.P.) screamed from her grave, for so mis-informing her pupils.

(27,315 posts)These days, it means showing Trump again and again without any comment.
I would expect that from most of the people on Morning J., but I was really disappointed by Jamelle Bouie who is normally a fairly astute guy. His comment on how people supporting Trump were everywhere from liberal to ultra-conservative were stupid:
a/ Being liberal is in the beholder's eye in these polls
b/ Given the number of liberals in a republican poll, how can it be meaningful
c/ Racism is spread across the ideological spectrum and if there is one thing that Trump's supporters have in common, it is racist tendencies (see PPP poll).
That Castellanos and the blond reporter (cant remember her name) were the ones making the point while Ignatius said nothing and all of them acclaimed Trump for having made exactly the same statement as Bush on K. Davis and a lot less than Graham is surprising.
