http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/09/04/with-defiant-clerk-in-jail-gay-marriage-licenses-finally-issued-in-kentucky-county/MOREHEAD, Ky. An attorney for jailed Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis said that the marriage licenses issued Friday to a series of same-sex couples here are not valid.
They are not worth the paper theyre written on, Mat Staver said outside the Carter County Detention Center, where Davis is being held on a contempt charge.
Our position and the position of the clerk of Rowan County is that those licenses are void, Staver said at an afternoon news conference in Grayson, about 35 miles from the Rowan County Courthouse.
Staver said the licenses issued Friday arent valid because they were issued under the county clerks authority but Davis hasnt granted that authority.

They are issued under the authority of the OFFICE of county clerk, not Kim Davis personally. So, you're wrong Mr. Staver.

(111,396 posts)and I doubt a snot slinging hissy fit by some right wing lawyer who takes it to court will change that.
The other employees have done an end run around Davis and her equally idiotic son. Who knows where this will end---maybe the family will have to give up their fiefdom as the voters chuck Kim out and pass a resolution against nepotism within government offices.
I can dream, anyway.
I hope there's a new Shiny Object soon for the media to focus on. Being forgotten in jail will bring her around fairly quickly.
Let her sit there and rot while the world goes on without her (and she can't get funding through gofundme anymore).
The second the publicity and possible money disappears, so will her "Christian" resolve.

IF the office issues the license, the license is valid.

(23,272 posts)Marriage licenses in Kentucky usually have the elected clerk's signature on them; those handed out Friday lacked any signature. The Rowan County attorney and lawyers for the gay couples said they are legal and valid nevertheless. When the judge was asked if the licenses will be considered valid without Davis' authorization, he said it was up to the gay couples to take that chance.
