(16,079 posts)"The United States has admitted 524 Syrians since 2011. Were likely to admit 1,000 to 2,000 Syrian refugees for permanent resettlement in Fiscal Year 2015 and a somewhat higher number, though still in the low thousands, in Fiscal Year 2016," spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday."

Why the rich Gulf states are saying no to Syrias refugees
Sep 9, 2015
THESE countries boast an embarrassment of riches.
But as European governments face global scrutiny over their struggle to accommodate a mass exodus of refugees from war-torn Syria, what are the rich Gulf nations doing to help?
Absolutely nothing.
Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain have offered zero resettlement places to Syrian refugees, according to new data from Amnesty International...

Most folks in the middle east marry their cousin. It makes sense to keep family wealth in the family.

(7,018 posts)taking in any refugees -- Syrian or otherwise. American Corporate businessmen have
no compassion either. It is a characteristic of sociopaths not to have compassion for
anyone but themselves.

(63,221 posts)Why are we making excuses for them. If nothing else, they should at least be using their obscene wealth to help the refugees, even if they don't want to take them in. Europe is stretched to the limit.

(16,423 posts)As the article layed out, in practical terms the whole chinese economy is ruled by the communist party. And as the communist party is has an almost-monopoly on jobs, it is also responsible for providing jobs to provide unrest. Those Syrians need food&shelter in the short term, money in the medium term and jobs in the long term. China has a hard time creating enough jobs for the Chinese. (China is currently pillaging Africa to scratch the ressources together they need to expand their economy more and more.) The Syrians would only magnify that problem.
Plus, behind the scenes China has a problem with racism. The Han-Chinese are taking over everything, pushing other chinese people out of positions of power.
Plus, China's culture is dominated by a doctrine of top-down-enforced harmony. (For about 2,500 years now...) Bringing in outsiders that are radically different would disrupt this harmony.

(25,704 posts)The entire point of the CCP is to make a Han state, with Han virtues. 250 years of foreign dynasty ( not to mention the Mongols) tend to make a race/people look for purity. 700 yeats of foreign invasion in Spain spawned the Inquisition. And who expected that?
Anyway, Han Chinese tend to be massive racists.

Most of these refugees are going to remain unemployed for quite some time.

(16,423 posts)Where there is profit to be made, there will be jobs. China actually prevents the creation of jobs that would lie beyond the control of the communist party: China vehemently prevents corporations from growing so big that they could lever some measure of influence over the chinese economy. Job-growth in China isn't some natural process of filling an economic vacuum. It is a state-coordinated process with the goal of preventing social unrest.
