The 18-year-old son of former Nebraska treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Shane Osborn was charged Wednesday in connection with two would-be robberies last week in the Omaha area.

Authorities allege that Avery Osborn wore a bandanna and a hat with fake dreadlocks when he and two other teenagers tried to rob separate people Sept. 3 in Omaha.

Though the robbers wore disguises, one of the victims gave police the name of a suspect, a young man who is a friend of Avery Osborn. Another victim told police that the robbers were driving a gold SUV with paper plates that said “Norfolk” on them.

A day later, Avery Osborn pulled up in a gold SUV with paper plates as authorities were questioning his friend and another purported accomplice at a Norfolk restaurant, police say.
