Anyone want to give a hug to Bravenak? Who, by the way, still doesn't know who sent the hate mail.

Last edited Sat Sep 12, 2015, 11:39 PM - Edit history (9)

Here's mine.

P.S. She can't reply because she was suspended after getting four hides in one day. The hate-writer, who has mailed two letters to her home address, promised more hides if she keeps speaking out.

Whatever our individual disagreements, hopefully we can agree on this: let's show her we appreciate her caring voice.

Here is a link to the nasty letters that were mailed to her home:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/118724750

Here is an important post of Bravenak's, which she made in an attempt to explain her views to Bernie supporters. She is anything but a hater or a race-baiter. Or a "race nagger" -- which she has been called here, by the way.

I've excerpted a key paragraph:

http://sync.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=488879

Bernie and his group have to spread goodwill throughout the Obama coalition. They need to steal Hillary voters. I fear that the active dislike for the man that many African Americans respect and love (honestly, we place him at the top of the list of All Time Greatest African Americans, above Martin Luther King Jr and MalcolmX, he to us is the all time greatest African American) is harming Bernie tremendously. We have an emotional connection to him, no amount of logic and policy discussions will change that. We do not like people who do not appreciate him and his accomplishments.

who sent that awful letter? I'm sure DUers would be willing to contribute to the cost. I think it is very important to know who did this, for her peace of mind mostly.

I know I would be willing to help withthat. PIs are much more likely to get the job done than law enforcement who probably wouldn't do a whole lot for something like this.

aspies are not all that comfortable with physical contact, and attractive women are not all that eager to give a hug to ken the monster, much less get one.

But I will knr a Bravenak appreciation thread.

BTW did you know that YT still does NOT have any videos of Ken the Monster?

Poor Ken, he just cannot get any love. He's gone and forgotten. In the words of EOR 'that's what would happen'.

Once there was a mind reading robot who told her that some other scientist liked her, and when she found out he was lying to her to try to make her happy, she fried his brain with her hatred, and then said through clenched teeth at him - LIAR!!!

I am only self-diagnosed, and claim the mantle of aspie. It's a handy tool. Once a co-worker was chiding me for invading another co-worker's space. I sorta cut her off mid-lecture with (in good humor) "Leave me alone, I've got Asperger's" and immediately both of the women were sympathetic.

Plus now I get to tell everybody else they have "normal-social-interaction-privilege".

Mostly in the hopes that they will give me beer and travel money.

167. Clue for folks who do not understand why some people can't "see beyond" race/gender etc.
Sat Sep 12, 2015, 11:17 PM
Sep 2015

Because we live in a country which stigmatizes and abuses members of minority groups for being minorities and women for being women and gays for being gay and disabled for being disabled. Every day. All the time. For two hundred years a bunch of folks who have not been oppressed have been promising to make it all better for us---like Santa Claus. Except Christmas comes only once a year. And we live with this shit every day.

There is a reason why social activism starts in the community. There is a reason it was important that Obama was a community organizer. We are not children. We do not need to be taken care of. We need to seize the tools to take care of ourselves.

So the odds are high that the letter came from a Bernie supporter, just as the letter said -- especially since the sender would have no way to predict that Bravenak would publicly post it. Why would he have bothered to disguise his real identity, when his aim was to make Bravenak shut up?

But I agree with you that I don't think Mr. Whomever conspired with several people to fix the jury process. He just wants to scare Bravenak.

Sun Sep 13, 2015, 11:36 AM
Sep 2015

It's very good advice.
I consider Obama an AMAZING president, easily the best in my lifetime. And an AMAZING human being. I understand criticism of him from the left because he doesn't do much to attack corporatism or wealth inequality, which the progressive left considers to be reaching a crucial tipping point, almost beyond a point of recovery. A lot of people have trouble holding two seemingly conflicting ideas in mind -- how to hold Obama in such high regard while still recognizing that it's way past time to focus on corporatism and wealth inequality -- but there's a time for everything, and the country might have gotten whiplash if we'd gone from Bush directly to someone like Bernie.

Hope Bravenak doesn't let one idiot (or a handful of idiots) interfere with her contributions here.

Sep 2015

I was really concerned about what happened to Bravenak. So I decided to see if it was easy to find out someone's address armed with only an online nickname. I googled the nick, found she has a website - 1st click. Once there I could view complete profile - 2nd click. At this page I could click on a link to her presence on another website - 3rd click

Now I hit pay dirt since this gave me a real name and a real location. With a simple search name in white pages and you get the address, phone number and map to the residence.

This is important because any of us are vulnerable. Make sure your FB is private and remove your location. If you have talent which is available on the net, make sure your online nickname for discussion boards is totally unrelated.

This is very scary because we can never be sure who else is online and we can't assume that everyone is balanced and sane. Not in today's world.

Try and find yourself and if you do it may be time to change your identity or remove any links to it.

Big hugs to Bravenak!

You can probably tell from the number of times I have posted on DU that I don't spend a lot of time here. I do check in almost every day because there are often nuggets of wisdom that catch my eye. One of them was the excerpt in pnwmom's post that needs to be read again by all of Sanders' supporters, because I think it is a key to Sander's winning the nomination. So here it is again:

Bernie and his group have to spread goodwill throughout the Obama coalition. They need to steal Hillary voters. I fear that the active dislike for the man that many African Americans respect and love (honestly, we place him at the top of the list of All Time Greatest African Americans, above Martin Luther King Jr and MalcolmX, he to us is the all time greatest African American) is harming Bernie tremendously. We have an emotional connection to him, no amount of logic and policy discussions will change that. We do not like people who do not appreciate him and his accomplishments.

Thank you a thousand times, Bravenak.

Somehow I managed to miss this entire incident except for the after posts. What's most frightening, from my perspective, is that someone would have a DU member's home address. How did that happen? The person sounds like a jerk and should be totally ashamed of themselves. I hope Bravenak can file it under "a-hole" and put it out of her mind. It's bad enough anonymous posters go after people on the site, but sending an actual letter is creepy.

Seek professional help immediately from a qualified mental health professional. Taking a message board dispute to the real world is DISTURBED BEHAVIOR AND IDEATION. Sorry if the truth hurts, but that is the truth.
