NO-ONE CAN SUBJUGATE ME!
The "two imams were talking about the issue of whether or not a man could/should beat his wife," when the two activists aged 25 and 31, mounted the stage, said Inna Shevchenko, spokesperson for Femen in Paris.
In Arabic and French, they shouted the same slogans painted on their breasts and backs: "No-one subjugates me, no-one owns me, I am my own prophet."
The two young women were of Algerian and Tunisian origin, said the spokeswoman for Femen. Immediately, shouts of "Dirty whores, kill them!" reverberated again and again around the hall and "fifteen men jumped on the stage and overpowered them", says Inna Shevchenko, who was grateful that the police intervened quickly to protect the women.

Quite a few progressives even aid and abet bigoted religious institutions, and I can see them wanting to downplay the bravery here as they quietly support bigotry through their own institution and want to think it's morally OK to do so.

Did you watch the video? One guy even starts kicking the one woman as she's down.
They precisely exposed the female hating nature of the event by protesting with their female selves in their most elemental form while demanding equality.
The breathtaking part is they get beat at a conference discussing wife beating. I think its very powerful stuff.

Even the Femen documentary filmmaker states Svyatski's role was grossly overstated by the media.

(631 posts)I think they should burn the head scarves, too. These are both symbols of their passive submission, similar to old fashioned dress codes for women here in the old days. Once strictly enforced by church and school, their clothes were their outward sign of their acceptance of their submission - and it's making a comeback among Christian fundamentalists these days.
