NORTHAMPTON — Hotel Northampton owner Mansour Ghalibaf says he believes issues between managers and workers are best handled face to face — without the presence of a third party. And that’s just one reason why he says a union would be a bad idea for the hotel and its employees.

But some workers say they need union representation after trying that approach in the past, only to see their complaints unanswered.

On Sept. 1, a group of over 50 people, including hotel workers, union officials and their supporters, marched through downtown to deliver a “photo petition” featuring the faces of more than three dozen employees who wish to unionize.

Though the snapshots represented more than two-thirds of the hotel’s workers, all of whom signed union cards, Ghalibaf declined to accept the petition.

Not to mention that Mr. Ghalibaf almost certainly doesn't attend his negotiations alone, choosing instead to have a well-paid lawyer there to be sure that everything is nice and legal-like. Unions are always a "bad fit" in such a place.

because it was centrally located and an historic hotel. Being anti-union isn't going to play well in Northampton.

to distract from the issue. The workers are THE UNION. Once the election happens....
