OK, I guess that is close enough for the uninformed. They both do battle.

I was just trying to remember if I had missed Bush being on the Iowa or the New Jersey.

Although it's still a popular Hasbro game. I somehow recall that our last battleship was decommisioned back in the 80s or 90s. Aircraft carriers, submarines, and other ships handle all the duties that battleships used to perform. One of the reasons we won the war in the Pacific in World War II is that the Japanese decimated our battleships at Pearl Harbor but left our carrier fleet untouched.

This was the source of an amusing exchange between President Obama and Mitt Romney at one of their debates in 2012. Romney thought it outrageous that the US hadn't built a battleship since after World War I. The President schooled him on why, and we all laughed.

or in 1991 depending on how you define "decommissioning" and the "maintained to a standard" storage between those dates. The actual status during that time is still debated. In any case, they haven't fired their guns in anger in a long time.

One of them, the Missouri, IIRC, became a museum ship in Pearl Harbor, as it was the ship on which Japan surrendered to the U.S., ending WWII. I think the other Iowa class battleships either are, or are slated to become, museum ships.
