and I don't find a post about it?
We have family and friends who lost everything ...WTF ... my in-laws lost everything ... the house they raised their 3 boys ... I am married to one of them ... a simple family raising 3 boys in a 1 bathroom and 2 bedroom house ... they struggled all their lives to pay their mortgage ... they served this country in the Navy ... and not one post about it ... we are trying to raise money for the displaced and apparently nobody gives a shit ... disgraceful
I am just disgusted.

(21,506 posts)That thing is littered with nonsense posts. A post about Trumps hair can make it to the greatest page.
I wouldn't base anything on what makes it to the greatest page.
tandot
(6,671 posts)and I couldn't find anything about it ...
I guess Trump's hair is more important than everything else

(20,577 posts)I am checking with FB posts of people I know affected by this. Others are probably finding more direct info too.
What makes it to the greatest page is by no means a gauge of what is important. Currently the photo contest is on the greatest page do you really think that means it is important?
And again there have been several posts about the fires. Just because you didn't see them does not mean there haven't been any.
I get that right now you are personally affected by this and I hope that your friends and family find relief. There is never a lack of horrible stuff happening around the world it is difficult to focus on any tragedy for very long as there are so many of them.
BTW there is nothing stopping you from posting about the fires with some inside info instead of ranting at DU because you didn't see posts that have and continue to be made about the fires.

(6,671 posts)I just lost my mom to Leukemia and now my husband's family and friends (who all lived on Cobb and Middletown) have lost everything
I probably shouldn't post when I am so emotionally drained but I was just very upset that nobody seems to give a shit.
Sorry

(21,506 posts)I truly hope your family finds all the help they need to get them through this. Sounds like they at least got out safely and in the end that is what matters. The rest is just stuff. Stuff can be replaced.
I am glad they are safe.

(60,010 posts)I just did a search for "Clear Lake fires" and 9 recent posts popped up.
I also wrote a couple of posts about the fires up there because we have family near Clear Lake.
The California fires have been posted a lot...put that in the search box.
Facebook and Twitter have been informative also about how to help folks who have been burned out.

How does that work?

(14,449 posts)Now that you have an OP, awareness will rise. I notice you provided zero links which further explains why there are no other OPs out there saying 1000 homes are destroyed. I think it is unfair of you to say we don't care. We do. There are many threads about the fires, but not the one you are personally aware of. Now we do.
Thoughts to those affected.

(6,671 posts)I am just so upset that so many people lost everything ... Is this not national news?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)so has CNN
ABC
CBS
The National in Canada, Mexican news as well
BBC
Hell, I even ran one story the other day. I am so small that we are far from there so it is hard.
It is not just national news, but international news. FEMA is getting geared up after the Governor declared state of emergency. It is kind of a needed step for that.
Some of us used to post these things, even as they broke and kept on them like you know, tight. But that was broken in our assess by a few posters. Two things. Make sure they know about both the state side, office of Emergency Services, OES for short, as well as FEMA.
As to raising money and all that, I cannot start to express the caution on being careful of scammers. And this is at all stages of recovery.

And no, there was no way to grab anything unless the bug-out bag was packed and next to the front door, something this fire blew up too fast for anyone to do.
It's bad for younger folks, but oldsters who lost everything can never recover.
ETA: This is what you had to drive through if you were trying to get to safety:

In the midwest, we just dont have forrest fires so its tough to relate. I know it affects you, so I understand the anger, but for a lot of people its just another news story.

(6,671 posts)We saw the news coverage ... but it really didn't get a lot of attention on DU ... this is beyond devastating. The whole area was struggling before the fire ... now it is just beyond what we would have ever imagined

(9,497 posts)We feel you. So sorry that you are so affected. My best to you, your loved ones and friends. The fire season has been brutal out here in the West. That doesn't help much, but just know there is a lot of outpouring of good wishes for you. Hopefully, it will be declared a disaster area and further help will arrive.

(8,776 posts)Excellelent video of Valley Fire, fire update.
On Monday the spread of the 67,000-acre Valley fire 62 miles north of San Francisco was slowed by temperatures in the low 60s, relative humidity above 80 percent, and 0.01″ of rain that fell in the late afternoon, according to data from a weather station south of the fire in Calistoga.
CAL FIRE reported Tuesday morning that their latest damage assessment shows that 585 homes and hundreds of other structures have been destroyed. The surveys are continuing and the numbers will likely change in the coming days. Approximately 9,000 structures are threatened. Evacuations are still in place, affecting 23,000 people.
In addition to the homes that burned in Middletown and Cobb, a geothermal plant that produces electricity, The Geysers, was damaged. Five of the 14 plants were affected, including power lines and wooden cooling towers.
Air tankers have not worked the fire since Saturday, grounded by poor visibility caused by smoke and clouds. Tuesdays weather is expected to make it possible to use them again. The forecast calls for a 35 percent cloud cover, a high temperature of 73 degrees, relative humidity in the 40s, and winds out of the west at 8 to 13 mph.

(154,021 posts)Helping Victims of Devastating Fires
Dear Friend,
Labor DayThe Valley and Butte fires in Northern California have devastated communities, destroyed hundreds of homes, and disrupted thousands of lives. They are among the most destructive fires in our state's history, and the pictures from the affected communities are heartbreaking.
Brave firefighters and cooler temperatures helped make progress against the fires, but there is still much to do and there are many in need. San Diego is no stranger to wildfires, and I will always remember the generosity of people from all over who donated money, materials and their time to help.
The Sacramento Bee newspaper did a great job putting together a list of places people can donate and volunteer to help victims of the Valley and Butte fires. Visit my website for more information on how you can help.

(6,671 posts)I shouldn't have posted ... I am really emotionally drained. I've lost my mom to leukemia ... it took 3 month from diagnosis to her horrific death on August 22nd. ... and now a lot of family and friends lost everything in that Valley fire.
Sometimes, it is just very hard to cope ...
Again, I am sorry for scolding anyone .... I know that DU cares!

(16,804 posts)sorry for the loss of your mom...mine passed on sept 11 last year. This past year has been rough.
For you it has been worse.
we have been watching the fire after fire after fire....
it has had an impact on me. in my business i sell telephony and internet to the smb market.
Because if the devastation i see on the tv i now have added a few lines of disaster recovery services for files etc.
My crusade for the fall and spring.....
what got to me was one fire had burned like 120 square miles...If you google hiroshima that was only 12 square miles....Understand loss of life and hiroshima was a city and yada yada yada...but the destruction...
so yah we been paying attention
take care

(31,388 posts)in the Valley fire.
We lost our home to a fire--not wildfire and not along with neighbors and friends--and everything in it.
Yes, your brain tells you that it's just stuff and it IS fortunate that everyone got out, but a lot of times
that 'stuff' represents irreplaceable memories in photos, keepsakes, and family treasures, often from
several generations. Losing that 'stuff' is heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking.
And then there is the nightmare of dealing with insurance companies, mortgage companies, buying clothes
for everyone, finding a place to live and furnishing it...so you can go forward with life. Just trying to do your taxes six months from now, when you have no financial records from the last year, can be a real pain.
My heart goes out to you as you try to help your family and friends deal with their losses, all at the same time you
are dealing with the loss of your mom.
Sending hugs...
