(32,886 posts)one for normal people, and another for how I think the GOP base saw it.
I said normal = Kasich or Rubio
and GOP base would say Trump won, and here you are.

Rubio does seems very intelligent and verbal. But...he is completely devoid of humor.

(28,394 posts)Can't remember anything in particular that he said last night. Stuff about Ohio? It was all longer than my attention span.
Rubio was very sharp and I thought Christie did better with his focus on "the American people". Seemed to work with the audience.

(42,770 posts)for some reason - this time - it's nothing important that people are looking for. Whenever candidates talk about what they have done it ALWAYS sounds like bragging to me. Guess there must be a better way to let people know what you have accomplished?
I am really quite surprised that Christie is such a persona non gratis now. The bridgegate thing just doesn't seem that big a deal anymore. Him bragging about how much he loved GWB was sickening though.
And - that no one called out Jeb when he said his brother kept us safe "9-11 - Duh" made me mad. You could see Trump's brain working on that one.

(10,270 posts)And seems a little skittish about getting hit back.
He probably would make a descent executive (as far as that could ever be said of any republican), but not yet. He needs another 10 years and to shed his fear of getting into a real scrap.

(32,886 posts)She is going to start getting much more scrutiny now and I think she is going to wilt under that scrutiny.
She has nothing to back her candidacy up in terms of success stories in her resume.

(27,985 posts)Or maybe he did and would have been whooped even harder without Ryan.
You're absolutely correct, though. Democrats ROCK in GE's. We have a long way to go in midterms and special elections, though. That's how we end up with him and assholes like Ron Johnson.

(21,563 posts)I would assume he would get the "1%" (richest Americans) vote, since he is their handpicked candidate. he can't even manage that LOL

(32,886 posts)including for whom you voted for President in 2012.
The real proof will come in the updated polls in the next few days in terms of who the base supports for the nomination.
Last time, even though most reasonable people thought Trump laid an egg at the first debate, his numbers started moving up dramatically.

(15,220 posts)That tells us something me thinks! These viewers are looking to be entertained; not informed.
Heaven help us if any ONE of those idiots on stage last night makes it any where near the oval office.

(235 posts)If you turned the volume off and just watched body language, Trump is the alpha male. His opponents were stiff and wooden.
"Nobody has done it this well since John F. Kennedy. Or Mussolini..."
Interesting article.

But I'd argue that he "purses his lips" about 99% of the time. He makes that little face that looks like a duck when he does it, too. Remember when Ivana called him "The Donald"? Donald Duck!!! LOL
I do agree that, on that stage last night, he WAS the alpha male. The others all appeared intimidated by him.

(42,770 posts)but not me" or something like that. you could hear her calling Tapper's name throughout the whole thing.
She does seem to have excellent recall of information. She's not gonna pull a Rick Perry and forget an agency to dump. But there is something really unlikable about her to me.
And - she pulled out that "Secretary to CEO" bullshit again. Her ex-husband said that was total bull. She took a secretarial job ONLY briefly to make ends meet when she switched her major from law to business. He said she will say anything to get what she wants. Have to admit she's got balls - can't imagine - getting fired from major company - losing her last election - then saying "hey I think I can be president" out of touch with reality narcissist !
