Rightwing asshole justifies Ahmed Mohammed's arrest

there’s nothing wrong with being a little suspicious when there’s a young Muslim student with something that “looks exactly like a fucking bomb” and there are young Muslims “blowing shit up” all over the world.
Link here.

Sounds like some garden-variety GOP-style racial profiling to me, and why should be surprised, since it fits their agenda so neatly?

Oh, wait! That's not some Rightwing asshole! That's none other than DU's favorite anti-Arab anti-vaxxer Bill Maher!

Fight on, Bill. Fight on.

No matter what he says, he's assumed to have a good reason or a legitimate justification.

He's a sexist, bigoted clock that's not even right twice a day, yet every week we read here of his wisdom.

Unbelievable.

The stuff that comes out of his mouth is effluence. Even if every once in a while he says something we can agree with doesn’t make him less of a hateful little man. What makes it worse for me is that smug, self-satisfied air. He thinks he’s clever and urbane.

screwed the pooch. Their reaction was completely stupid and is more than suspicious with regard to racism, or profiling, or bigotry. The way they seemed to be trying to scare Muslims or whatever their motive was, was beyond the pale.

On the other hand, the young boy was a tad naive. The engineering teacher was an idiot, he recognized the problem then did nothing about it. The English teacher probably showed some normal fear in this hyper-protective, violent, crazy world we live in, yet there is probably room for a better reaction and outcome on their part.

The police and the security personnel fucked up beyond belief once the clock was determined to be a clock.

Maher is right on one thing, people are suspicious of Muslims, no doubt. And to say that it is completely wrong is being naive, otherwise it wouldn't be so widespread. Is it overblown? For the most part, maybe. Do young Muslim extremists blow shit up and are there lone wolves out there that might want to go on a shooting spree or blow something up? Fuck yeah there are. Recent history proves that beyond a doubt. Are they 14?

Maher is no right-wing asshole, he is fed up with the tactics of radical Islam, as are many of us.

You nailed it there. This was going to happen to any kid who did the same thing. Maher is bringing up unrelated things and invoking the spector of members of ISIS and maybe the Boston Bomber. Not all "young Muslims" are the same with the same likelihood of engaging in terror on behalf of radical Islam.

Except, ya know, it didn't have any explosives, even fake ones. Those are generally considered the main component of a bomb. But it DID look like a bomb electronic timing device...... Oh wait, I guess in the absence of any explosives, or a means to trigger them, that would be called a CLOCK.

Bill can choke on a pound of fish assholes.....

is the same as one back in the Arab countries. He's made a bad comparison there.

Though there was the Boston bomber.

Here I think it is the school environment that caused the fuss. Schools are very careful to the point of absurd these days. See the pop tart case or the case of the kid who pointed his finger and said bang bang.
