I do not understand how Republicans can lie and get away

with it but if a Democract, like John Edwards, make a mistake, they are accountable and have to step out of the race. Fiornia lied about Planned Parenthood and she is now gaining ground. Please explain to me how this possible? Not only that, she want to challenge Mrs. Clinton about trust, guess she forgot her time at HP was not that nice. What a piece of work!

Sorry, a typo, corrected it.

on a phenomenal scale. They hear the term "golden parachute" and think that it's some kind of expression of gratitude. No, it means it was worth $22M to them for her to fucking leave!

As for the abortion thing, these are the same folks who are against in vitro fertilization, because if every single embryo isn't implanted they are "murdered".

On her weekly NPR screed against Democrats, Roberts conceded that Trump isn't doing himself any favors by not responding to the old "Obama is an unAmerican Muslim" nonsense, but she referred favorably to Fiorina's "strong debate performance" without once pointing out that Fiorina is full of shit.

In short, it's exactly as you state it: what Fiorina said is what they already believe.

I got into this argument already, and I can tell you this much: they don't care that the video doesn't show what that woman is describing. They say that the video shown is for illustration of an event that they believe actually happened. I didn't really have much to say after that because they accepted that it was an edited video and were still angry and on-board with what she said.

The RW WANTS to believe what she said is true. It's a form of denial and also promotes the story further. In addition, the RW is more interested in promoting their side than they are in the truth.

They believe what they believe.
Evidence against their belief is suppressed with cognitive dissonance.
Evidence for their belief is reduced to a useless sound-byte and cried out without understanding what they are talking about.

They believe what they believe because they chose to believe precisely that.

For instance, for longer than I've been alive conservatives have nursed a grudge over the 1960 election, claiming that Kennedy stole the election by fraud, winning Illinois by Mayor Daley of Chicago stuffing ballot boxes with "votes" by dead people.

However, even if that did happen, the election didn't hinge on Illinois. Even if he state had gone for Nixon, Kennedy still would have won the election.

Let's also note that Republicans have always just assumed there was fraud in Chicago (granted, considering Daley's reputation, isn't particularly far fetched), they've never tried to prove it. They even try to dress up that lack of investigation as something noble, that Nixon let it drop "for he good of the country". The real reason Republicans got him to drop it was precisely because it wouldn't change the outcome of the election, and an investigation might expose Republicans' own electoral machinations in other areas of the state.

But that hasn't stopped them from waving it as the bloody shirt of Democratic "voter fraud" for half a century. It's too useful, laying the groundwork for their current fraud claims to justify voter suppression.

But Republicans wouldn't be able to lie and get away with it without the collusion of the media. I am not only talking about Faux News, but also the so-called "mainstream media."

For example, simply look at the false claims about "yellow cake uranium" made while GWB (asshole) was squatting in the White House.

It was clear from every foreign media outlet as well as the NYT (they sometimes get it right) that the info was forged. It was only a year or so later that OUR media started mewling. . . ."We didn't know!"

Bullshit.

And that is ONLY one claim. They don't ask pertinent questions, and they NEVER check facts. They may as well be stenographers.

Paul Krugman wrote during the whole shameful GWB Squat in the WH that the media would write about the earth being flat:

"The shape of the earth is truly under debate. There are two valid sides to this argument."

Fiorina lies and is 'gaining ground' with the republican base, not with Democrats and independents.

Democrats expect more from our own candidates. Our base is much less accepting of lies, misbehavior and blatant pandering. When our candidates lie or misbehave they suffer consequences that republicans do not have to face.

those are matters for the stumble-bum liberals, who they laugh at. In a sense they are more hepcat and post-modern than any beret-wearing dufus in a college town coffee house. The more outrageous the b.s., the bigger the rise from disconnected liberals, the greater the pleasure. DO NOT expect MSM to intervence with the "truth." It is fighting for its commercial life (which is based on a celebrity model), and in any case, much of it is owned or controlled by RW, corporate entities. In short, there is NO CONCERTED OPPOSITION to the FR, and they know that. Hence, they can tag, label, and dominate the dialog without fear of opposition. The old MSM model of developing a national agenda and re-enforcing a national mythology is dead. And the Democratic Party has for decades now been actively loath to express opposition for fear of further labeling and of being seen as anti-corporate.

The far right is the most powerful political force in the country. It's not that big in numbers, but it has the most money, a neutralized and dying MSM, superior competence, and most importantly the molten-hot fire in the belly to continue bashing a hapless and fearful "opposition." By any means necessary (to quote a 60s lefty expression).

ON EDIT: You may wish to study the last two stanzas of Laurie Anderson's "O, Superman." She had it down nearly 35 yrs. ago.

Mon Sep 21, 2015, 04:48 PM

No seriously, its a lot to do with the age of their voters. Most rethugs I know (and I know a lot of them), are over the age of 75 and they have very bad hearing aids. Not to mention their short term memory is pretty much non-existent. They fall for the con every time.

Then there is the media that thinks this crap sells cause the hate shows on faux get great rating, but its really because all the old people watch faux noise 24/7. The thing is they watch the fake news channel all day and night every day because they are retired and don't really have much else to do. They also tend to have the volume cranked when watching, you know cause of the hearing issues. So much for trying to have a chat and maybe talk about the lies. But the person always thinks you are yelling at them and mad. Which is true as one has to yell to be heard when the tv is cranked all the way up and the person watching needs new hearing aids.

The rest of that party consists of racists and bigots so of course they will believe any lie that makes their hate grow. They live for this stuff. Makes them feel better. Whatever ....

30. the GOPers "create their own realities" and act on them
Mon Sep 21, 2015, 04:55 PM
Sep 2015

then, while the rest of us are catching up and figuring out where they went off the rails, they've gone on to do something else, create another "reality" and act on it.

this is straight from Karl Rove's mouth.

then, as part of helping the rest of us catch up, the M$M will "teach the controversy", because as we all know there are at least two sides to everything, and no one's opinion is so counterfactual that it can be honorably ignored. as long as that person is rich and/or famous.

Republicans and conservatives in general are authoritarians. most of them are authoritarian followers, who form their worldviews with complete faith in the infallibility of the various authoritarian leaders they follow. if that leader lies (PP video), especially if it's within bounds of their established basic worldview (abortion is murder, mkay?), then that lie is pointing at a Greater Truth, and additionally may be for strategic effect and will help in the long term, as the politician continues on to create more "realities".

the Republican electoral strategy is to get the "reality" creation engines revved into high gear as soon as possible while state governments under their control remove as many minorities as possible from the voting process. if Fiorina is "surging" it's because the base has increased confidence that she has mastered this important technique.
