Unfortunately, I have friends who have lost good paying jobs because of it.

But, i think it's important to keep gas prices down, even if regulation is required, because low income people disproportionately benefit (and i mean that in a good way).

People with enough income barely alter their driving behaviors even at $4 per gallon and it doesn't hurt much.

People with low incomes have to pay it because their driving behaviors are based upon being able to get to and from work and get the kids to and from school. It's not discretionary.

Having $2 gas is huge for these folks!

isn't easy to figure out. As is that the developed countries can't tell developing countries that they can't develop how they want, since that's how the developed countries became developed in the first place.

Short term will always beat long term.

And while some other means of producing energy would be welcome, right now petro fuels are a necessity. So, it's still very helpful for low income folks to have access to that necessity at an affordable rate.

prices will remain low until the frackers and smallish oil companies are driven out of the business.
Reminds me of what happened to the wildcatters a few decades back.
