Reflecting on a new poll that found that nearly one-third of Americans, including a plurality of Republicans “could imagine supporting the U.S. military taking over the powers of federal government,” Patrice Lewis of WorldNetDaily claimed last week that such results are not surprising. Lewis wrote that while a coup wouldn’t work to defeat “the progressive agenda” that holds sway over the U.S. government, it could at least simply split the nation in two and “divvy up our land mass into two nations — one progressive, one conservative.” “With due respect to the atrocities committed upon the Native Americans, we no longer have an empty continent where disgruntled individuals can flee when things become intolerable,” she said. The new conservative nation, Lewis explained, would be founded upon the ideals of God and would “win His favorable attention once again.”
