When she was 90 she decided to walk from California to DC. She started at the end of the Rose Bowl parade and ended her walk in April of 2000 in DC. 3200 miles, 14 months. In the Rotunda at the Capitol in DC, she and several others were arrested reciting the Declaration of IIndependence. She walked across the country, starting when she was 88 yrs old for money and corporations out of our elections. Campaign finance reform.
Remember her anyone?
We had the honor of being in her presence in March of 2002 in Austin, TX. She spoke at one of the 1st Rolling Thunder Reviews that year.
She was amazing! Everything she ever said rings true still to this day.As she spoke we felt as though we were in a special presence. She moved us.
Miss her.

(5,128 posts)I know. Crazy idea, but just maybe it is what just might be needed at this moment in time.
Anyone want to join in?
Seriously, thoughts DU'ers?
I can do it alone, would be much better if we could make it happen with more than just 1. Not everyone all the way but just for parts of the trek.

(8,760 posts)She was an great person.
She died about two months after the Citizens United ruling at 100. I don't know what her health situation was at that time, and if she was aware of it.
Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful day. Jim Hightower of course, Michael Moore, Molly Ivins were all there and were great to see but Granny D was incredible.

It was a great day.

(8,760 posts)You never know, we could have been standing right next to each other.
I felt very optimistic that day. Bush and Cheney stomped a lot of the optimism out of me soon after that. I was starting to believe that Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" might have been a prophecy rather than a cautionary tale after watching some of the new Republicans in action.
I find that my optimism is returning.

(3,595 posts)The feckless Democratic Senate Committee did little to help her campaign. Following was a documentary on P.B.S. that indicated she might have won with more support.
The N.H. Democratic leadership is as useless as our New Jersey party leadership. I MEAN YOU, Sweeney, if you are reading this.
