I might be missing some parts but that is the gist of what a co-worker felt compelled to stop me in the hall, for a good 10 minutes, this morning to explain.
She is extremely devout (but not Evangelical) but she doesn't necessarily believe it..... but friends of hers have been "reading some websites" "not any that I'd go to but they are Christians sites" and all signs point to the end of days.
So this is goodbye, I guess, DU. it's been fun. I hope we made a difference. I am sure we all have learned a lot and had a good time DUing it.

http://www.wired.com/2015/09/body-surrounded-clouds-skin-fart-bacteria/
Everywhere you go, in everything you do, you are surrounded by an aura of microbes. They drift down from your hair when you scratch your head, they fly off your hand when you wave to your friend, they spew out of your mouth when you talk. Even when you sit around doing nothing, youre sitting in your own, personal microbial bubble.
Made up of millions, billions, trillions of bacteria, yeast, cells, and cell parts, this bubble is actually more like a clouda cloud, new research suggests, that is unique to you. And as gross as it is to imagine everyone around you shedding microbial bits and pieces into the air, studying those clouds can be useful for people like doctors tracking down disease outbreaks and cops tracking down criminals.

(14,912 posts)lake community, along with the Tennessee River. I don't need a Lambo, Ferrari or Maserati, but I *have* had my eyes on a few nice houses on the lake, along with the boats and jet skis! I'd settle for a nice Honda Accord or Acura, and a truck.
Hell, I found a kit on Ebay today that will change out the doors on my '94 Acura Integra LS so that they open just like Lambo doors. It was *only* $450.00 for the hinges and doors!
On a brighter note, I *did* find me a window for my driver's side door for $45.00 with free shipping! I have looked all over East Tennessee for the last 3 months trying to find a window, or even a whole door, at a salvage yard with no luck at all. It hasn't been so bad, just can't go anywhere when it's raining... but now it's starting to get colder out. It's not even the end of September yet, and we have had late night/early morning temps in the high 40's and low 50's. We usually don't get that until around November! Now I just have to scratch up the $45 for the window. It's been a rough couple of months here, and my disability only goes so far. I'll have to see if I can sell something right quick, or hope they still have it when I get paid at the beginning of the month. I am counting it as a necessary expense. At least I can install it myself though, so no expense going out for that.
Peace,
Ghost

(14,912 posts)busted. Looks like someone took a bat to them. I had just traded my gas-hog Dodge RAM 1500 4x4 for this Acura Integra 2 weeks earlier. I guess someone had it out for the guy I traded with because I have no enemies like that that I know of. I had my truck, which was VERY distinctive, for 2 years and no one ever bothered it. Nor had anyone bothered my Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had owned since 2006. Any old enemies I had are either dead, in prison or 800 miles away and I haven't seen in 20+ years. Luckily the windshield just cracked, doesn't leak, and isn't where it obstructs my view. I only have liability insurance, the State Mandatory Minimum, because the car is bought and paid for, so they won't pay for the windows. I have tried taping clear plastic over it, but it doesn't hold for long. I'm still hopeful something good will happen soon, as I have had more than my share of bad luck recently.
I am not a religious person at all, in fact a self described atheist, but I had an experience today that renewed my faith in human kindness from a Christian couple. I belong to a couple of local "yard sale groups" on Facebook. Last month they had some clothes listed really cheap, but there was like 4 people already wanting stuff before I saw it. I just commented that I wanted in line if the other people didn't show up, because I have lost over 70 lbs in the last 5 months and had no clothes that fit me anymore. A few days later, they sent me a private message that they had 10 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans that I could have for $6 if I was interested. I jumped at the offer. They sent me another message yesterday saying they had 25 long sleeve shirts and 2 pairs of jeans for $12 if I was interested. Of course I was! I told them I had just checked my bank account and had $21 and some change, and asked if they could meet me at my bank where I could write them a check and they could cash it right then, because the minimum ATM withdrawal is $20.00. They said that would be no problem.
When I arrived at the bank at the agreed upon time, they were waiting. I got out my check book, and they told me to put it away, that they were GIVING me these clothes because that's what Jesus told them to do. I insisted that I could pay for them, no problem, but they would not take my money. They also said that they were going to be finding some more stuff for me. I was totally awe-struck, and thanked them profusely. I told them if they EVER needed anything and I was physically able to do it that all they had to do was call me or message me.
It took me almost an hour and a half to drive the 15 miles back home because I was so overcome by this strange feeling that I missed my turn and was just driving aimlessly, thinking about what had just happened. Maybe it was Kharma, as I have been involved for the past 10-11 years in helping feed the homeless, often on my own especially at Thanksgiving, and throughout the year when I can. I help with collections on the National level for "Toys for Tots" at Christmas, and also our local program "Toys for Kids" in the County I live in and the 2 surrounding Counties, but I still promised to pay it forward, which I fully intend to do.
It just goes to show how random acts of kindness to others can one day come right back to you. I am still amazed at this moment, and this happened at 9:30 this morning.
Sorry for the long, off topic post, but I HAD to share it with others.
Peace,
Ghost

(14,881 posts)10 Things That Are Going To Happen Within 15 Days Of The End Of The Shemitah
By Michael Snyder, on August 13th, 2015
The following are 10 things that are going to happen within 15 days of the end of the Shemitah
September 14th Rosh Hashanah
September 15th The Jade Helm military exercises are scheduled to end.
September 15th The 70th session of the UN General Assembly begins on this date. It has been widely reported that France plans to introduce a resolution which will give formal UN Security Council recognition to a Palestinian state shortly after the new session begins. Up until now, the U.S. has always been the one blocking such a resolution, but Barack Obama has already indicated that things may be different this time around. If alarm bells are going off in your head as you read this, then you probably already understand how significant this event could potentially be.
September 20th to September 26th The World Week For Peace in Palestine Israel sponsored by the World Council of Churches.
September 21st The UN International Day Of Peace. Could this be the day when the UN Security Council resolution establishing a Palestinian state is actually adopted?
September 23rd Yom Kippur
September 23rd Pope Francis arrives at the White House to meet with Barack Obama. Some have suggested that the timing of this event is highly unusual
Francis is the 266th pope who will be meeting with President Obama on the 266th day of the year, leading one Internet preacher to wonder if something is being birthed on that day, since 266 days is the typical human gestation period from conception to birth.
September 24th The Pope addresses a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
September 25th to September 27th The United Nations is going to launch a brand new sustainable development agenda called The 2030 Agenda. The following is an excerpt from an article that I just wrote about this insidious new plan
If you didnt like Agenda 21″, then you really are not going to like The 2030 Agenda. Next month, the United Nations is going to launch The 2030 Agenda at a major conference that will be held from September 25th to September 27th in New York City. The Pope is actually traveling to New York to deliver an address which will kick off this conference. Unlike Agenda 21, which primarily focused on the environment, the 2030 Agenda is truly a template for governing the entire planet. In addition to addressing climate change, it also sets ambitious goals for areas such as economics, health, energy, education, agriculture, gender equality and a whole host of other issues. As you will see below, this global initiative is being billed as a new universal Agenda for humanity. If you are anything like me, alarm bells are going off in your head right about now.
September 28th This is the date when the Feast of Tabernacles begins. It is also the date for the last of the four blood moons that fall on Biblical festival dates during 2014 and 2015. This blood moon falls on the very first day of the Feast of Tabernacles, it will be a supermoon, and it will be clearly visible from the city of Jerusalem. There are many that dismiss the blood moon phenomenon, but we have seen similar patterns before. For example, a similar pattern of eclipses happened just before and just after the destruction of the Jewish temple by the Romans in 70 AD.
Many have also suggested that the Large Hadron Collider is scheduled to perform a controversial experiment in September, but so far I have been unable to find any solid confirmation of this. If someone will send me some solid proof of this, I will be glad to write about it.
Just recently, author Jonathan Cahn released a new video in which he expressed his belief that a great shaking is coming to America and the world. He points to the Biblical pattern of desecration preceding judgment, and he is convinced that we recently witnessed a historic act of desecration here in the United States

LOL
According to Bob Altmeyer's book, The Authoritarians, putting RWA's (Right Wing Authoritarians) in power does seem to lead to Armageddon:
...
The High RWA Game
The next night 68 high RWAs showed up for their ride, just as ignorant of how they had been funneled into this run of the experiment as the low RWA students had been the night before. The game proceeded as usual. Background material was read, Elites (all males) nominated themselves, and the Elites were briefed. Then the wedgies started. As soon as the game began, the Elite from the Middle East announced the price of oil had just doubled. A little later the former Soviet Union (known as the Confederation of Independent States in 1994) bought a lot of armies and invaded North America. The latter had insufficient conventional forces to defend itself, and so retaliated with nuclear weapons. A nuclear holocaust ensued which killed everyone on earth--7.4 billion people--and almost all other forms of life which had the misfortune of co-habitating the same planet as a species with nukes.
pg. 33 (pdf pg. 39)
When this happens in the Global Change Game, the facilitators turn out all the lights and explain what a nuclear war would produce. Then the players are given a second chance to determine the future, turning back the clock to two years before the hounds of war were loosed. The former Soviet Union however rebuilt its armies and invaded China this time, killing 400 million people. The Middle East Elite then called for a United Nations meeting to discuss handling future crises, but no agreements were reached.
At this point the ozone-layer crisis occurred but--perhaps because of the recent failure of the United Nations meeting--no one called for a summit. Only Europe took steps to reduce its harmful gas emissions, so the crisis got worse. Poverty was spreading unchecked in the underdeveloped regions, which could not control their population growth. Instead of dealing with the social and economic problems back home, Elites began jockeying among themselves for power and protection, forming military alliances to confront other budding alliances. Threats raced around the room and the Confederation of Independent States warned it was ready to start another nuclear war. Partly because their Elites had used their meager resources to buy into alliances, Africa and Asia were on the point of collapse. An Elite called for a United Nations meeting to deal with the crises--take your pick--and nobody came.
By the time forty years had passed the world was divided into armed camps threatening each other with another nuclear destruction. One billion, seven hundred thousand people had died of starvation and disease. Throw in the 400 million who died in the Soviet-China war and casualties reached 2.1 billion. Throw in the 7.4 billion who died in the nuclear holocaust, and the high RWAs managed to kill 9.5 billion people in their world--although we, like some battlefield news releases, are counting some of the corpses twice.
...
http://members.shaw.ca/jeanaltemeyer/drbob/TheAuthoritarians.pdf
See footnote (24) on pg. 51 (pdf pg. 57) for a little more discussion of the Global Change Game.
One might note that a Republican victory in the next election might be the most significant sign of the "End Times" that is possible.

(12,388 posts)I am so many years beyond you that even the Clairol company has no use for me anymore:
When I was a little girl there was a time when all the "signs" pointed to the end of our planet.
My grandmother chuckled as she told me about her 'End of the Earth' times. She explained the story of when her dad carried her, as a toddler, along with the other townspeople to the top of city's highest hill. Biblically, it was to be the end of the world.
They gathered, they sang, some cooked a last meal. The children played, awaiting the end.
Grandma said that at daybreak she awakened momentarily only to see her dad putting her back into her bed.
Why for believers is it so hard to remember that scriptures say... No One Will Know The Hour.
???
Certainly DU has few believers, so they will mock this post, but what right have you to do the same?

Had I won, I would have expected the world to end - just to spite me.
Instead I expect it will go on, for much the same reason.

Dang, I just remembered, that drawing hasn't happened yet.
Stay tune, it still COULD be the end.

(12,154 posts)That reminds me of Twain's Letters from the Earth, in which Satan reports that humans have conjured up a version of Heaven that does little to encourage piety among the living:
It is as if a lost and perishing person in a roasting desert should be told by a rescuer he might choose and have all longed-for things but one, and he should elect to leave out water!
His heaven is like himself: strange, interesting, astonishing, grotesque. I give you my word, it has not a single feature in it that he actually values. It consists -- utterly and entirely -- of diversions which he cares next to nothing about, here in the earth, yet is quite sure he will like them in heaven. Isn't it curious? Isn't it interesting? You must not think I am exaggerating, for it is not so. I will give you details.
Most men do not sing, most men cannot sing, most men will not stay when others are singing if it be continued more than two hours. Note that.
Only about two men in a hundred can play upon a musical instrument, and not four in a hundred have any wish to learn how. Set that down.
Many men pray, not many of them like to do it. A few pray long, the others make a short cut.
More men go to church than want to.
To forty-nine men in fifty the Sabbath Day is a dreary, dreary bore.
Of all the men in a church on a Sunday, two-thirds are tired when the service is half over, and the rest before it is finished.
The gladdest moment for all of them is when the preacher uplifts his hands for the benediction. You can hear the soft rustle of relief that sweeps the house, and you recognize that it is eloquent with gratitude.
Thanks for the tip on Shaw -- a reference I wasn't familiar with.
malthaussen
(17,193 posts)... about one of the Enlightenment authors spending the Sabbath in Scotland. (Might have been Hume, in fact, it's like him). The day started with a three-hour sermon in church, then home where the patriarch led prayers and Bible readings for several hours. Then it was back to church for another sermon, topped off by a Spartan dinner and more prayers and discourses about the Faith. When the guest ventured to complain about the standard of entertainment, his host looked at him in contempt and asked why he should be bored when every day in Heaven was going to be just like this.

Well on Y2K midnight, a few of us sneaked over and opened their main electrical panel on the side of the house and threw the main breaker. Retreating back to our house, we tossed a bunch of firecrackers over the fence and settled back to watch the show.

I have a guilty pleasure of replying on these pages to true believer's comments. Like, "What happens when Obama quietly retires from the Presidency and you find out he is not going to declare himself permanent dictator of America and reveal himself as the AntiChrist?" and "If Hillary is the next President, how will you spin HER being the AC as the Bible clearly states it will be a man?". Seriously, reading some of those people reveals some deeply disturbed people.
