Reject the Pope, embrace a sociopath: A lesson in Tea Party logic

Sometimes politics is about using your office as an ideological burn pit, and as Exhibit A we present Tea Party congressman Paul Gosar, a devout Catholic from rural Arizona who prefers the company of a law-breaking racist over the Pope.

Gosar, a first-termer adept at grandstanding – his main issue is the impeachment of EPA head Gina McCarthy – blogged that he will boycott Pope Francis's speech before Congress because the Holy See has "adopted all of the socialist talking points. . . and is being presented to guilt people into leftist policies."

Gosar is impervious to guilt, so that's one less problem.

But in one daft stroke, he repudiated both his religion and government.

Since the Fifth Century, the Pope has been considered the Vicar of Christ, which means this petty partisan has decided that the earthly representative of Christ should be rejected because He wants to discuss matters important to Him – in this case, his planet boiling over.
