Could Boehner's exit scuttle the GOP's government shutdown?

The short version is, now that John Boehner won't have to worry about a big leadership battle, he's more likely to push a "clean" funding bill (that leaves Planned Parenthood funding intact) and rely on Democrats for the votes to pass it.

Here's Politico:
It was always known Boehner and fellow GOP leaders would have to rely on Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her House Democratic ranks to pass a government funding bill without a controversial provision defunding Planned Parenthood. But the question was how much of a political threat that would have posed to Boehner’s speakership – a threat that no longer exists.

“I think we’re gonna not shut down the government,” House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) predicted confidently on Friday.

House GOP leadership reportedly started laying the groundwork Thursday afternoon for a "clean" bill that Democrats can help push across the finish line.

I think it assures a shutdown, and probably impeachment attempt. The next 12 mos leading up to GE are going to be interesting. Hopefully GOP batshit crazy is on full display to voters...it could marginalize the GOP for a decade or more....maybe kill it.

I spoke to a D Congresswoman today, and her expectation is that there will be a clean CR passed by the House and Senate.

HOWEVER, the CR will only be for three months. At which point we'll do this all over again with new House Leadership, and my expectation is that the new Speaker will be 1) more conservative, 2) still building trust with the Republican Caucus and 3) needing to show his resolve against the White House.

a shot across the bow of Mitch McConnell in the Senate. A budget bill passed out of the House, sent to the Senate for Reconciliation will only need 51 votes (they have 54 ) thus forcing President Obama to Veto it. They will play this as Obama shutting down the government to fund Planned Parenthood. Wait and see. They don't really fucking care who they hurt in the process as long as they can make President Obama look bad.

From the WSJ:

Most Republicans said they expected Congress would pass spending legislation keeping the government funded before next week’s deadline and that the legislation would include funding for Planned Parenthood.
