Think about it this way, Republicans get 4-7 percent of the African-American vote…If you double that, you win elections in Ohio, Virginia. And we should make that case, because our message is one of hope and aspiration. It isn’t one of division, “get in line, we’ll take care of you with free stuff.” Our message is uplifting, that says, “You can achieve earned success. We’re on your side.”

“We’re on your side,” black voters, though we’re not sure you’ve really achieved “earned success.” You’ve been relying a little too much on “free stuff” from Democrats, but we’re here to change that. The level of condescension and negative stereotyping in Bush’s statement is stunning, but not surprising.

After all, Mitt Romney said essentially the same thing – directly to the NAACP, in July of 2012. “Your friends who like Obamacare, you remind them of this: If they want more stuff from government, tell them to go vote for the other guy — more free stuff. But don’t forget nothing is really free.”

Mr. 47 percent didn’t learn from the outrage over his remarks, either. In an election post-mortem, Romney blamed his loss on President Obama giving “gifts” to blacks, women and students in the electorate.

I read somewhere else he was defending dropping estate taxes for the deserving wealthy. Right out in public -- not behind closed doors.

Are right-wing billionaire donors pushing him to head for the white gutter or is he really this stupid? We'll have the answer if we learn the Kochs decide to create a President Rubio.

4. I love this angle. As though the wealthy don't get "free stuff."

Jeb gets a free Ivy League education. Free entree to the worlds of finance and big business and politics. Free legitimacy. Banks and Wall Street get free screwing-over-the-American people to the tune of $4 trillion. Energy companies and Fiorina's HP get free tax refunds and credits worth BILLIONS.

But the "real" moral hazard is that children might be getting too much free "food to eat" or "education." Or that an elderly or disabled or unemployed person might get some public assistance. Or healthcare. Or housing.

I've heard that we all pay about $40 / year in taxes to support social programs, and about $4,000 to support defense spending.

I wonder how that works out in terms of "free stuff" and who's getting it.

5. Projection. African Americans worked like dogs for free as slaves for 250 years

and made Americans rich. Also made Europeans rich. All those big houses in the West should be owned by descendants of slaves in the Americas and elsewhere. Government programs these days just provide a baseline for the poor or a hand up to the middle class if you work hard. The same thing rich kids like jeb get for free but don't have to work hard for.
