When single mother and 4.0 student Amanda Osbon couldnt find a babysitter for her one-year-old son, she had two choices: skip class, or take her child with her.
...
After receiving permission from the campus director at DeVry University in Nashville, Tennessee, Osbon and her son were off to school.
...
My professor said, Its OK Amanda, hes only a toddler.
...
I have my own two-year-old, so I held him and went about my teaching and it was no big deal, Bunkowske explained.

I'm sure Amanda will do well with such an inspirational professor, what a great thing to have someone believe in you so much.

But four or five toddlers running around every day would obviously adversely affect the education people are seeking.
Early childhood daycare should be seen as more as the investment it is.
Let these mothers and fathers rise to potential.
Right on campus daycare options would be perfect.

(118,282 posts)5. DeVry is one of those for-profit schools. From Wikipedia:
Senator Tom Harkin's report on the for-profit college industry revealed that DeVry's tuition for an associate degree is 10 times higher than at community colleges; it has a dropout rate of 50 percent (60 percent for online students) within a median of 3 1/2 months; spending per student of less than $3,000 per year on education, about a quarter of what is spent by the University of Illinois; a CEO salary of $6.3 million, 46 times more than the president of the University of Illinois; and evidence of deceptive recruiting of students
It's a nice story, but in my own cynical way I might suspect it's a form of advertising

I don't think that's going to work.
