Indiana Van wreck shines light on plight of the poor

"The super-rich and the middle class. We’ll hear a lot about both groups as we spend the next year riding the wave of nonsense toward the 2016 presidential election.

What we won’t hear about is the poor. The kind of people who pile into a van with bald tires and a wooden bumper. The kind of people who will do any kind of work they can find in desperate hope of bettering their situation."

....Two people were killed and 22 were injured when a packed 1994 Dodge van blew a tire and flipped over near the Fort Branch exit of Interstate 69 just after 3:30 p.m.

Killed were Gena Moise, 60, and 19-year-old Christela Georges. Georges was pregnant. Her child, forcibly born three months premature, was in critical condition as of Friday night.

Most, if not all of the passengers, are, and were, Haitian immigrants."

The police don't know how many were in the SUV, at least 17, maybe more. All were illegals from Honduras, probably being transported by a "coyote" to find work in the US. 8 were killed, 7 injured and the others ran away. Some of the victims were children.

With all the unrest in the world, we are bound to see more of this. How sad it is, I can't image having to leave my home to find a new life. Many of the people who are on the move are just trying to find a safe place to live and to earn enough to feed their families. They are not drug addicts and rapists as said by D. Trump.

The coyotes didn't want to get caught so they sped up as several police cars in were pursuit. The driver of the van over-corrected when he was passing cars and as a result it flipped over a few times.

The cop tried to pull the van over for a minor infraction. I thought there was a law to let cars with minor infractions get away instead of a high speed chase precisely because it might cause an accident. They have the car make and license plate numbers anyway.

...with no money and few options.

The uber wealthy see us as expendable. They assuage whatever guilt they might feel by accusing us of laziness and "bad decisions."

I hope Ms. Georges' baby makes it.
