Passenger on plane claims to have mistook the exit door for the lavatory door

A plane passenger was arrested after he mistook the aircraft’s exit for a toilet door - and tried to open it at 30,000 feet.

James Gray was on board a KLM flight from Edinburgh to Amsterdam when he made the terrifying blunder, according to reports.

On touching down at Schiphol Airport, he was whisked away to a detention centre.

He spent the night in custody, before being fined €600 (about £440).

Gray - who claims it was a “simple mistake” and a “misunderstanding” - was also slapped with a 5-year ban for flying with the airline.

But he claims he didn’t know about the ban until he tried to fly back home - and was prevented from boarding the aircraft.

Pretty potent mix that a lot of people who are nervous about flying try. It's either chemicals or raging stupidity.

It also makes a few people hazy and belligerent.

The doors don't look anything alike. The exit door is WAY bigger and has a window that faces the outside of the plane!

You don't want to slow down an exit in an emergency.

I understand why they would arrest him, but its honestly not that dangerous. Doors on planes typically open inwards (even the main door usually opens inwards even though it then goes outside the plane)

Cabin air pressure will not allow you to pull that door in. There is just too much difference in pressure.

The air pressure inside the plane combined with the doors opening inward means you can't do it, no matter how hard you try. The inside pressure keeps the door closed.

So maybe it freaked people out, but I don't think anyone was in actual danger.
