Confederate flag battle steps on toes

... For any current high school student, the closest connection they could have to the Civil War and the actual Confederate States would be a great-great-great-grandparent. I’m from Virginia, and my ancestors fought for the Confederacy. I am not close enough to those ancestors to have any pride for them whatsoever.

I know and understand people my age. None of them (or at least incredibly few) actually care about their ancestors who fought in the Civil War. So-called “Confederate heritage” is utterly ridiculous, especially coming from today’s high school students.

One would think that once these protests got support from groups such as the Neo-Confederates, students and parents would realize that they are fighting for a truly questionable cause. Lawyer Kirk Lyons from Black Mountain, North Carolina, has been contacted by several parents and has plans to come to Christiansburg. Lyons ... is a self-proclaimed “white supremacist lawyer.”

Is this really the kind of person you want supporting you? ...
