When Joe is on the set everyone falls into a "role" that they are expected to play while deferring to Joe on pretty much every subject.

When the egomaniacal blowhard is on vacation the people that make up the "supporting cast" get a chance to take center stage and the show improves immeasurably. Her total (exagerated?) ignorance of anything "pop culture" aside, even Mika steps up when she's not having to play the doting sidekick to Joe's alpha male jackass.
