(41,868 posts)simple plastic ponchos that are sold around the city, that are probably selling like hot cakes today!

(41,868 posts)ask for one of their cheap plastic table coverings, cut a hole in the middle, instant Poncho!!

(78,249 posts)hence, the can of hot and spicy Hormel chili (with Tabasco) I just polished off (it was on special at Safeway )

(78,249 posts)more "Sad Jose" awfulness: it's downtown. I can only go there because it's right near the light rail on my way home. All there is near me is a FoodMaxx (el cheapo, bag-your-own version of Lucky); it isn't on the way home, and on weekends it's mobbed with moms with their carts piled to the roof. And, of course, they never have enough checkers. Give me The City's ridiculous rents any day (I pay $1375 for a rather tacky one-bedroom, and that's a thundering bargain down here as well!)

Yes, the streets in California are paved in GOLD!

(78,249 posts)You, at least, have amenities. Actually there are neighborhoods in the ATL that put Sad Jose to shame, like Little Five Points and Virginia Highlands.

(269,250 posts)How early is that snow?
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)but not unprecedented. I just saw a photo on FB that someone took of the snow on this date in 2012, which just happened to be a snowfall season record-breaker. We could be in for another one, what with El Niño and all. Fairbanks got it much worse than us...they even had to cancel school today, and many up there are without power.

(5,815 posts)Beer and hot dogs are the only reason I go to GG. No idea how to bet on a horse race. We always take $20 to gamble and promptly lose it all after doodling on the forms. It's a great time though.

(5,815 posts)I'm glad I'm skedaddling early out of work in about an hour. Avoiding all that traffic mess. Chili, blanket nest, netflix!
It's funny. I moved here six years ago tomorrow. The first two winters were completely terrible with the rain. I was biking to work and ending up completely soaked for three months straight each winter. I thought, screw this, next winter I'm getting a car. I bought one, and it never rained since. Maybe if I sell my car, the soaking winters will return?
Right now, I'm looking at an Epic pamphlet that just came with discounted season passes for Tahoe. I love skiing, but this past winter especially was terrible. I can't decide. To nab a pass or not? They say the Hell Nino is coming, but . . .

(41,868 posts)I won't tell you about my Seafood chowder, that I had saved up for a day like today, nabbed from Fisherman's Wharf and a very famous restaurant that I broke out today, just for days like this...
Note to Tourists This is the go-to spot for the best Seafood in the city!

(41,868 posts)Pretty damn dry....
To nudge California out of drought territory, it will take almost double the amount of rain that falls in a normal year during the upcoming rainy season that starts in less than two weeks, according to a recent analysis prepared by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration meteorologists.
