Powell: I stay Republican 'because it annoys them'

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell joked that he identifies as a Republican to annoy the GOP’s right-wing.

“Yes, I’m still a Republican,” he said about his party affiliation during the Washington Ideas Forum in Washington, D.C., according to the Daily Mail.

“I want to continue to be a Republican because it annoys them,” Powell quipped to host Walter Isaacson.

Anyone who has followed Powell's career realizes that he is a Company Man up to his eyeballs.

Ask him about his role in My Lai, for example.

I'm far more likely to listen to Powell's henchman Wilkerson, although I even take what he has to say with a grain of salt.

Totally agree, but he's more than tired and useless. He's as much of a war criminal as the thieves and liars he CHOSE to align himself with. He sold his soul to the devil ages ago (perhaps at Mi Lai but certainly at the UN). and of all the Bushies, may he especially rot in hell because he knew war, had been to war and had seen the waste, the atrocities and the senselessness of war. Yet he still argued for a war against a nation that was totally innocent. Not a single 9/11 hijacker was from Iraq and after the 1991 US war there, that poor nation had been kept under horrific UN sanctions making it impossible to morph into an alleged imminent threat.

So what had Iraq ever done to the US to justify such action as Shock & Awe and such lead up lying as Powell's UN bullshit?

Fuck him

And how could they overlook being pushed/lured into a war with Iran for years, then finding us backing the Iranians too!

But he served the MIC well, (don't forget Haiti) and they owe big-time.

In attempts to cover up this Massacre

Colin Powell, then a 31-year-old Army major, was charged with investigating the letter, which did not specifically refer to Mỹ Lai, as Glen had limited knowledge of the events there. In his report, Powell wrote, "In direct refutation of this portrayal is the fact that relations between Americal Division[75] soldiers and the Vietnamese people are excellent." Powell's handling of the assignment was later characterized by some observers as "whitewashing" the atrocities of Mỹ Lai.[74] In May 2004, Powell, then United States Secretary of State, told CNN's Larry King, "I mean, I was in a unit that was responsible for My Lai. I got there after My Lai happened. So, in war, these sorts of horrible things happen every now and again, but they are still to be deplored.

Read the whole link for a better understanding of what went on.
I personally knew briefly one of the monsters who was involved in this. He moved to our area after the war. He was bat shit crazy and I think somewhat before this but I'm sure this had a lot to do with his insanity. Finally shot himself in the head twice and still didn't die right off, spent the last days in a rest home as a vegetable. Fitting end to a monster.
We always figured his wife at the time pulled the trigger the second time, at any rate I don't think she was even questioned as no one wanted to come to his aid. Everyone was scared of him and hated him with a passion.

It might have dealt a serious blow to the credibility of the Bush (mis-)Administration and forced them to re-think invading Iraq (but then again, maybe not but at least Powell would have retained some of his integrity). Powell seemed to know that what he was being asked to talk about was bogus, if not highly suspect. The crazy thing about all this is that Bush/Cheney could have achieved a bloodless and legitimate foreign policy objective if they had just let the UN Inspectors, which their pressure- and that of Congress- helped get back into Iraq, finish their job and come to the same conclusion that everybody else did long after the invasion occurred- that Iraq had no more WMDs/proscribed weapons. Now, they just have the blood of 4000 dead Americans and countless dead Iraqi civilians (and lots of wounded) on their hands.
