It has come to light that these mass killers

are not the criminals NRA uses to poo-poo gun danger, but rather, always lost souls who listen to Rush, Hannity, Beck and other hate speakers or religious radicals. Corporate media promotes hate speech, as do the majority of the Repug candidates. They are to blame for the downward spiral of our social DNA

The News-Review also quoted a student, Kortney Moore, saying the shooter had asked people their religion before opening fire. Moore could not be immediately reached for comment

More of a philosophical thing. It can be like a religion, in that people are firm believers in whatever tenets they feel relates to them best. They do pick and chose like most religious believers, taking what they want and ignoring the rest.
