working poor group
not 'gee i think i know what they need'
not 'they should'
it's 'this is our life, let's help each other'
it's 'we work for so little we do 60 hours a week and still have problems meeting bills'
it's 'we are not the middle class' we are not the 'working class' we are the 'working overtime poor'

skinner will let us start this if we get some 'signatures'

skinner says 10 or so people and he'll set it up

pimping the creation of 'working poor'
c'mon how many here does this affect?

yes i know the frugal group exists, but that's 'we want to live cheap by choice'
it's not the same as 'you don't have a choice at all'

...I'll toss my name in for you. I know I am always looking for new ideas to make no (or negative) money stretch even farther.

Also, BTTT.

((Inb4 "You know, you should...&quot )

EDIT: Annnnd I promptly out myself as incapable of reading a link when it isn't directly in front of my eyes constantly. Duh. I'll wander to the appropriate thread.
SECONDEDIT: *laugh* Maybe I should go check the other thread BEFORE I edit my post, as it basically says 'come here'. Okay, I need a drink.

to subscribe and lurk.

Among the useful things I've learned on DU over the years is that I had a lot of misconceptions covered under those two "not" entries of yours - I expect that reading your proposed group could be valuable for me...

It seems to me there would be a great deal of overlap between the groups...

I've been there, & had to figure out how to stretch - and I mean stretch a very meager food budget - well, you couldn't really even call it a budget, sadly. All while the worries of everything else. It's freaking hard and demoralizing.

You have my support.

I've been there, although I'm not there now - mainly through a combination of luck plus having my kids grown and gone - so I have only myself to support. And I know how to live on very little.

Good luck!

22. Suggested Statement of purpose for the group

-----------------------------
Statement Of Purpose of The Working Poor Room

This is a safe haven designed for Working Poor and people interested in Working Poor, but supportive of us only. Criticism of Working Poor or of their lives and jobs are not permitted in this room. If you wish to criticize Working Poor there is always GD.

If you post criticism of Working Poor you will be blocked from this room without warning.

The hosts of this room don't like blocking but we dislike disruption even more. Our primary concern is for Working Poor to have a place to discuss their problems without having to deal with 'ideas', 'suggestions' and similar from people that have never been Poor, Working Poor, or Without Means (I.E. clueless about the topic).

Disruptions include:
"Just get a better job."
"Just eat rice and beans."
"That's what you get for not going to college." Quite a few Working Poor actually did.
"Just move elsewhere."

If you get blocked or have been it is not personal. There is no reason why we in this room need to be disrupted.

And please do not post in this thread to complain about our Statement Of Purpose.

Thank you,
