Dark-skinned doll wearing 'slave collar' ignites outrage

A Playmobil pirate ship has spread a wildfire of outrage over a figurine that resembles a black slave wearing a neck shackle.

Ida Lockett, of Sacramento, Calif., said her 5-year-old son received the toy as a birthday gift, and when she was helping him put the ship and characters together, she noticed the instructions telling her to put a play shackle around the figure's neck.

"You cannot have this specific accessory and call it anything else," she told CBS Sacramento. "The fact that you can Google it, look it up, say what it is — it's a slave collar."

The toy's instruction manual that Lockett's son received specifically shows a dark-skinned doll wearing no shoes, ripped pants and a torn yellow shirt. The manual instructs the assembler to pop a silver round piece around the doll's neck. The ship that the doll goes with, appears to include a dungeon.
