They have invented this new reality where everything was terrific back in 2008, when the unemployment and uninsured rates were rising and DREAMers lived in fear of deportation and Osama bin Laden was still at large,
Obama said.
That was the golden era apparently, the good ole days. Then I came and messed it all up.
He accused the GOP of wanting to turn the clock back furthest on immigration, noting that his predecessor, President George W. Bush, made immigration reform a top priority.
And he implicitly chided Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a Republican presidential candidate, for abandoning immigration reform despite sponsoring the 2013 comprehensive reform bill in the Senate.
Some of the very same Republican politicians who championed immigration reform in the past, some of whom sponsored these efforts, suddenly they want nothing to do with it, he said.
Thats not leadership, turning against whats right the moment the politics of your base gets tough.

This is intentional and systematic.
Even if the president reminds the public that Repubs were for immigration before they were against it, he himself still fails to say why both parties were for it.

(6,829 posts)On tv while flipping channels somebody was interviewing a focus group about Trump. One of his fans was talking about how wonderful he was, BEING A SELF MADE MAN and all that good businessmanning, etc.
Well, if you let me start my working life with a $220,000,000 INHERITANCE FROM A WEALTHY FATHER, and I bet most of us would be successfully "self made" too!
Just one of many examples about how awash in misinformation all us Americans are.

(19,060 posts)The GOP is going to be running against Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and 2008.
Bernie has done a great service in forcing Hilary to the left to be more populist. No one has a clue which wingnut the GOP will eventually nominate, but they will be taking on the greatest 3 political machines in US history at the same time as well as the reality of 2008 which their party owns.

(50,983 posts)The real problem is a corrupt media has reinforced this alternate reality. THE. ENTIRE. MEDIA.
We can arbitrarily start with the fiction that Dubya Bush won the presidential election of 2000. A responsible media would have kept that wound open and festering. Then there is the fiction of 9/11. A responsible media would have repeatedly questioned why Bush was allowed to testify together with Cheney but not under oath. They also would have questioned why building 7 dropped in its tracks when it was never hit by an aircraft. Next on the list is the Iraq War. We can go on and on.
The media has failed us, utterly.
