perhaps we would not be celebrating Columbus Day?
On CNN, Carson was asked: "But just to clarify, if there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time, would 6 million Jews have been slaughtered?"
In response, the candidate suggested that Hitler may not have been as effective in carrying out his plot if the victims were armed.
I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed, Carson said. Im telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take guns first."
The comments drew a swift response from the Anti-Defamation League.
Ben Carson has a right to his views on gun control, but the notion that Hitlers gun-control policy contributed to the Holocaust is historically inaccurate," said Jonathan Greenblatt, National Director of the organization. "The small number of personal firearms available to Germanys Jews in 1938 could in no way have stopped the totalitarian power of the Nazi German state

(58,785 posts)1. Carson is a perfect example of the power of personality over intellect.
Like so many, Carson starts out believing what he wants to and in short order is able to believe ONLY that.
The Jews weren't much more than 1% of all Germans, but that didn't keep Germany's social and religious conservatives from eagerly swallowing Hitler's lies that they had to stop the Jews from destroying the Fatherland.

Just like gun nuts, who have fantasies that they could 'take on' the U.S. government.
In fact we have a particularly effective 'air tank.'

Oh, now I did it. Just another reason for gun culture to feel 'oppressed.'

(19,233 posts)5. The only armed resistance the Jewish people put up against the Nazis was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

They were actually quite successful at first, killing or injuring dozens of Nazi soldiers and even repelling armored vehicles and tanks with often-times homemade weapons.
Ultimately, however, they were wiped out when the Germans decided to bring significant firepower against them.
