First, great job Canada, and that's very important, but Gen X nerds might share my squee.

(6,592 posts)but that trailer doesn't do a thing for me beyond nostalgia. I'm going to see it anyway, and I hope it is better than it looks.

(25,586 posts)Star Wars was all I thought about for years. It led me to a life-long love of SF and of film in general. It led me to Japanese cinema, and from there to world cinema in general.
Star Wars for life!

(32,342 posts)We were in my mom's Gran Torino and I remember everything. Hopefully that will stick with me through old cootdom.
When my boyfriend now husband moved in, he shyly revealed he still had his Millennium Falcon and a lunch box full of action figures. I told him it was his dowry.
Star Wars for life!

(18,585 posts)The last three movies, and Lucas's changing of the earlier flicks has soured me on the whole thing.

(6,592 posts)(fortunately, apparently) - VHS of the three originals.

Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)The prequels kind of convinced me that absolutely no one could do a worse job than Lucas himself.
Props to the guy for IV, V and at least some of VI, but the smartest thing JJ Abrams has done IMHO with this deal is keep George far, far, far, far, far, FAR away from it.
"Thanks man, we got this"

I've got a bad feeling about this.

(56,828 posts)but, I heard that part of the movie is a quest to find Luke, and he is not found till later in the movie.
Dr. Strange
(25,920 posts)Certainly much better than having him end up being the villain, which is my great fear.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)but, somehow, I don't see it.

But I do not watch trailers. They give away fast too much of the movies.

Reter
(2,188 posts)Too little in fact. What's the plot?
joshcryer
(62,270 posts)There's a lot of guessing that you can do but you can at least have a strong idea about some things, like how Han Solo is likely associated with the Mandalorian's (Boba Fett's mercenary group) and the two main characters are going to be protected by that group at least initially.
edhopper
(33,575 posts)trailers show the most spectacular FX shots. Taking away their impact when you see them in the movie.
When I see the trailers after I see the movies, I see how much they would ruin.

Frankly, I could do with a whole lot less of monastic religions, too.
Oh! Almost forgot. John Williams' music sucks. It all sounds the same. He's a talentless git.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)there are no midichlorians in his movies. That was almost a bigger travesty than Jar Jar.

(62,270 posts)(And yeah, that's a freaking awesome trailer. So much hidden in there. And yes Luke shows up in the R2D2 scene.)
Starry Messenger
(32,342 posts)I thought there'd already be three threads about this.
I have a deep and uncritical love for old school Star Wars. I am cautiously optimistic, it feels like a mix of good ingredients, and isn't going to just be a reunion special, but a real story with the original characters critical to the film.
The new characters are intriguing, and I can't wait to see this!

(62,270 posts)Today's been a "pretty good day.'

(53,339 posts)Tickets are (or were) available for advance screenings on December 17th--and they're showing all 7 movies that day. And beginning in November they're offering a series of 3-D glasses, a different one each week, all styled after Star Wars characters. There was more info, but their website was running a little slowly.

Recursion
(56,582 posts)So far in Mumbai only two theaters have announced a midnight screening; one is a 1930's era movie hall (no air conditioning, but waiters who bring you samosas and fruit juice in your seat) and the other is just a normal cineplex like in the US. I'd kind of like to do it in a retro theater but I'm not sure how the sound system will stand up...
Codeine
(25,586 posts)That sounds delightful!
Recursion
(56,582 posts)OTOH, that means there are waiters bustling about in front of you throughout the show.

(41,692 posts)Top notch---plan on seeing it there and in 3D.

(32,342 posts)I just bought tickets for opening day at our usual spot. We usually wait for crowds to die down, but this is pretty special.

(41,692 posts)Even though its more costly that a regular theater---the experience is awesome.
Starry Messenger
(32,342 posts)I have a feeling we'll be seeing this more than once in theaters. I think the IMAX theater closest to us is the Metreon in SF, which will probably be quite busy and hard to park at until the initial buzz goes down a bit.
trumad
(41,692 posts)They have different types of IMAX theaters. So9me not as good as the others. The one I go to in Orlando is considered one of the best around.
